GNT earns top sustainability award

The company has been awarded the EcoVadis Platinum Medal, ranking among the top 1% of food manufacturing companies worldwide for sustainability performance.

NETHERLANDS – GNT Group, the innovative producer of EXBERRY® plant-based colors derived from fruits, vegetables, and plants, has achieved a remarkable milestone by securing a Platinum medal from EcoVadis, the world’s leading provider of business sustainability ratings.

This prestigious recognition places GNT in the top 1% of food manufacturing companies globally for sustainability performance, marking a significant upgrade from its Silver and Gold medals in prior assessments.

The Platinum rating reflects GNT’s score of 86 out of 100, positioning it in the 99th percentile.

Key improvements include enhanced resource efficiency with reduced energy and utility consumption, strengthened ethics and compliance through external audits, better supply chain risk management, and increased on-site supplier oversight to promote sustainable procurement.

GNT’s commitment extended to its official membership in the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) in 2025, aligning its operations with the principles of human rights, labour, the environment, and anti-corruption.

Rutger de Kort, Sustainability Manager at GNT, highlighted the achievement as a “continuous improvement journey” and a milestone in the company’s ambitious plans.

Rutger de Kort, Sustainability Manager at GNT Group, said: “This Platinum medal is the result of a continuous improvement journey and represents a significant milestone in GNT’s ambitious sustainability plans. We’ve worked tirelessly to drive higher standards, strengthen policies and procedures, expand sustainability KPI reporting, and improve our risk assessment practices.”

He emphasized proactive risk identification to ensure an ethical, low-carbon EXBERRY® value chain, offering customers supply chain resilience and ethical sourcing assurances.

This builds on GNT’s decade-long sustainability targets, including a 26% reduction in carbon intensity at EXBERRY® factories since 2020 and complete training of contract farmers in sustainable agriculture, with 74% achieving Farm Sustainability Assessment silver standards.

The closely managed supply chain enables precise Product Environmental Footprint data for most colours, reinforcing GNT’s leadership in clean-label food colouring.

For food manufacturers, GNT’s Platinum status signals reliable, eco-friendly ingredients amid rising demands for transparency and reduced environmental impact.

The family-owned company, headquartered in Mijdrecht, continues to innovate non-GMO colors for snacks, beverages, and bakery products, supporting global clean-label trends.

Looking ahead, GNT has pledged to continue advancing its sustainability agenda, aiming to reduce carbon emissions further and expand renewable energy use across its operations.

The company’s leadership in plant-based colours, combined with its sustainability excellence, reinforces its role as a pioneer in shaping the future of food ingredients.

IN 2025, GNT expanded its Middle East operations with the launch of a new application laboratory dedicated to its EXBERRY® portfolio of natural colours derived from fruits, vegetables, and plants.
