BlackHorse Holding launches integrated 400-mt rice mill, 240MT sack plant in Nigeria
The new rice mill is expected to strengthen local milling capacity, improve packaging efficiency and support Nigeria’s drive to achieve greater self-sufficiency in rice production.
NIGERIA – BlackHorse Holding Company Limited has officially commissioned a 400-metric-ton-per-day rice processing mill alongside an integrated 240-metric-ton-per-month sack manufacturing facility in Danzaki, Kano State, Nigeria.
Operating through subsidiaries Crescent Rice Limited and Aminchi Bags Limited, the twin launch represents a significant private-sector investment aimed at strengthening northern Nigeria’s agricultural processing, improving localized packaging supply chains, and reinforcing national food security goals.
The project introduces a closed-loop industrial model that addresses both grain processing efficiency and long-standing packaging shortages in domestic agriculture.
Powered by a dedicated 3-megawatt independent, sustainable energy solution, the entire complex maintains uninterrupted operations, reducing reliance on the national grid while promoting sustainable, low-carbon manufacturing practices.
The inauguration marks the culmination of a phased multi-year expansion for Crescent Rice Limited.
Commercial operations initially launched in 2024 with an initial processing capacity of 80 metric tons per day.
In 2025, two additional lines raised throughput to 240 metric tons daily, before final installations brought the plant to its full designed capacity of 400 metric tons per day.
The mill’s finished products have already secured the African Organization for Standardization (ARSO) Dual Mark of Quality via the Standards Organization of Nigeria, verifying compliance with regional standard NIS ARSO 464:2017.
Complementing the mill, Aminchi Bags Limited produces high-density woven polypropylene sacks designed specifically for storing, transporting, and distributing rice, grains, and other bulk agricultural commodities.
By manufacturing packaging materials directly within the mill complex, the company ensures a steady packaging supply for its own rice lines while reducing import dependency and lowering logistics costs for external agricultural processors across northern Nigeria.
BlackHorse Holding, which previously operated primarily in logistics and heavy haulage through Dangwauro Container Terminal, views the Kano facility as part of a broader strategy to diversify into agricultural processing.
Executive leadership confirmed plans to expand the mill’s daily output beyond 500 metric tons in future phases, alongside developing additional processing lines for groundnut and sorghum oil.
The new Kano hub significantly enhances domestic processing infrastructure, directly supporting smallholder paddy farmers by providing a reliable, high-volume market for locally grown grain.
