Vandemoortele USA completes final phase of acquisition of Banneton Bakery

The completion of the transaction gives Vandemoortele full ownership of Banneton Bakery, strengthening its manufacturing footprint in the United States and reinforcing its commitment to serving the growing demand for premium frozen bakery products across the region

USAVandemoortele USA, a leading provider of premium frozen bakery products for foodservice, retail, and convenience stores, has finalized the acquisition of Banneton Bakery Inc., assuming 100% full ownership of the Swedesboro, New Jersey-based commercial producer.

The transaction marks the successful completion of a strategic multi-phase integration process that originally began in April 2024, when Vandemoortele acquired an initial 80% majority stake in the enterprise.

The full acquisition represents a major milestone for Vandemoortele’s North American growth trajectory, establishing its first direct US manufacturing platform.

Founded in 2008 by Victor and Alex Litinetsky, Banneton Bakery has built a strong industry reputation for manufacturing premium, clean-label freezer-to-oven croissants, Danish pastries, and other laminated dough products for commercial foodservice operators, grocery retailers, and convenience channels throughout North America.

Integrating the New Jersey plant into Vandemoortele’s broader network creates a hybrid operational model.

By pairing local domestic manufacturing with Vandemoortele’s established European import infrastructure, the company aims to optimize supply chain flexibility, shorten product lead times, streamline regional distribution logistics, and serve customer demand with localized agility.

“Completing the acquisition of Banneton Bakery is an exciting step forward that reinforces our unwavering commitment to being a trusted partner to our North American customers,” said Curt Coolidge, General Manager of Vandemoortele North America.

“We are excited to fully integrate the Swedesboro facility into our operations, allowing us to deliver the ultimate one-stop-shop experience for authentic, premium freezer-to-oven croissants and pastries.”

Headquartered globally in Ghent, Belgium, the family-owned food group operates production facilities across 12 European nations and distributes bakery and plant-based products to over 90 countries worldwide.

Following the closing of the deal, Alexandre Bloch, formerly of Vandemoortele France, has assumed the position of Operations Manager for the Swedesboro facility.

Vandemoortele confirmed that daily manufacturing operations, product quality standards, and customer service for retail and foodservice partners will continue uninterrupted.

The Banneton brand will remain a permanent feature within Vandemoortele USA’s product portfolio alongside its established European pastry line, Banquet d’Or.

Company leadership underscored that the acquisition reinforces Vandemoortele’s commitment to being a trusted, single-source provider of authentic European-style pastries in North America.

Full ownership grants Vandemoortele direct authority over future facility investments, capacity expansion, procurement, and workforce planning in New Jersey as it accelerates its presence across the frozen bakery sector.

Financial terms for the final stake acquisition were not publicly disclosed.
