P&H begins construction on grain storage expansion at Port of Quebec

The expansion is expected to improve the terminal’s operational flexibility and strengthen its role in serving domestic and international grain markets.

CANADA – Parrish & Heimbecker, Limited (P&H) has officially broken ground on a facility expansion at its marine export terminal at the Port of Quebec, initiating the construction of two new grain storage silos following full regulatory authorization from the Quebec Port Authority.

The capital expenditure project is designed to expand dockside storage capabilities and significantly optimize vessel loading and discharge workflows at the deep-water terminal.

By fully integrating the new silos into its existing infrastructure, P&H seeks to improve operational efficiency, increase overall throughput capacity, and streamline handling schedules for domestic producers and international shipping lines.

The Port of Quebec is a crucial deep-water gateway in P&H’s coast-to-coast grain-gathering and handling logistics network.

P&H acquired the terminal assets in May 2025 in collaboration with QSL, expanding its presence at the Port of Quebec.

The strategic expansion strengthens the supply link connecting Canadian grain growers with growing global end-use markets across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East while expanding the company’s operational footprint in Eastern Canada.

Speaking on the strategic investment, Anthony Kulbacki, Vice President of Grain at Parrish & Heimbecker, emphasized that the expansion underscores the company’s confidence in the long-term outlook of Canadian agricultural trade.

He noted that boosting storage capacity at this vital corridor will enable P&H to serve its producer customer base better, strengthen supply chain reliability, and capture new commercial growth opportunities across export destinations.

Construction is underway and is expected to be completed in early winter 2028, with measures in place to manage noise, dust and traffic and minimize impacts on the surrounding community.

Headquartered in Winnipeg, Manitoba, family-owned Parrish & Heimbecker operates an integrated Canadian agribusiness footprint.

Its operations span grain origination, crop input retail, flour milling, animal nutrition, and port elevator services at more than 80 locations nationwide.

The investment at the Port of Quebec reflects broader industry initiatives across North America to modernize bulk logistics infrastructure, mitigate port congestion, and improve the resilience of global agricultural trade networks.
