The deal marks a significant expansion for the Spanish frozen dough giant into the competitive North American foodservice market, though the financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

SPAIN – Europastry, a global leader in frozen bakery, has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Highland Baking Company, a prominent, family-owned US producer of premium breads tailored for the foodservice channel.
The strategic move marks a major milestone in Europastry’s international expansion and heavily solidifies its operational presence in North America.
Following the official integration of both companies, the combined group’s annual revenue is projected to surpass US$2.3 billion globally.
Highland Baking Company, which specializes in high-quality items like hamburger buns, pretzels, ciabatta, and pan breads, operates production facilities located in Northbrook, Illinois, and Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Under the terms of the acquisition agreement, Highland Baking will continue to operate under its existing corporate brand name and current management team.
This layout is designed to maintain seamless business continuity, secure long-standing client relationships, and protect the unique family-oriented internal culture of the US firm.
For Europastry, this acquisition represents a primary pillar of its dynamic roadmap within the lucrative North American bakery market. Building upon this newly expanded corporate footprint, Europastry plans to execute an ambitious, large-scale investment program across its United States assets.
This capital injection will focus primarily on scaling up domestic manufacturing capacity, introducing new baked-goods categories, and rolling out the Spanish group’s extensive portfolio of frozen bakery innovations directly to American foodservice clients.
Leadership from both enterprises expressed strong optimism regarding the shared cultural and strategic alignment.
Jordi Galles, Executive Chairman of Europastry, noted that the transaction is far more than a routine business acquisition, describing it as a unification of two companies that share identical long-term visions and high standards of product quality.
Echoing this sentiment, Highland Baking Company CEO Stuart Rosen stated that Europastry is the ideal partner to propel the American business into its next chapter of development while fully preserving its identity and creating fresh growth opportunities for its workforce and suppliers.
The transaction remains subject to customary regulatory closing conditions and approvals. It is officially expected to be completed in the second half of 2026.
