dsm-firmenich reaches 100% renewable electricity milestone ahead of schedule

To achieve this milestone, dsm-firmenich implemented a sourcing strategy aligned with the technical criteria of RE100.

NETHERLANDS – dsm-firmenich, a global leader in nutrition, health, and sustainable living, has announced the achievement of its 2025 goal of sourcing 100% of purchased electricity from renewable sources, several months ahead of schedule.

The achievement marks a key milestone in the company’s long-term strategy to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across its operations and value chain by 2045, with targets validated by the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

The company’s climate commitments include sourcing 100% renewable electricity by 2025 and maintaining that level through 2030.

Having now met this goal early, dsm-firmenich reinforces its role as a sustainability leader within the global business community.

“At dsm-firmenich, sustainability lives at the heart of what we do. Reaching 100% purchased renewable electricity ahead of schedule demonstrates the decisive actions that we are taking to make our ambitious, science-based targets a reality,” said Dimitri de Vreeze, CEO of dsm-firmenich.

Dimitri de Vreeze describes the milestone as a reflection of the dedication of colleagues worldwide, marking a crucial step toward the company’s net-zero ambition by 2045.

“Climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our time,” added Katharina Stenholm, Chief Sustainability Officer of dsm-firmenich.

“While this milestone is a testament to our collective effort and passion, we know that the journey continues. We will keep pushing forward to meet our long-term goals and sustain the progress we’ve made, with our net-zero ambition for 2045 guiding the way.”

To achieve this milestone, dsm-firmenich implemented a sourcing strategy aligned with the technical criteria of RE100, a global initiative uniting influential businesses committed to using 100% renewable electricity.

RE100, led by Climate Group in partnership with CDP, works to accelerate the transition toward zero-carbon energy grids worldwide.

The company’s approach combined long-term power purchase agreements with significant wind and solar farms in Europe and North America, local renewable retail contracts, and expanded renewable sourcing in China through several long-term agreements.

Beyond electricity, dsm-firmenich is also scaling up efforts in renewable steam and heat, sourced from biomass cogeneration plants in Switzerland, France, China, and Brazil

Optimizing waste streams and collaborating with partners to develop low-carbon solutions remain central to its strategy for reducing GHG emissions.
