ADM expands regenerative agriculture program to Hungary

Hungary, one of Europe’s leading producers of sunflower seeds, was selected for its strong agricultural base and rising demand for sustainable sourcing.

SWITZERLAND – ADM has announced the expansion of its flagship regenerative agriculture initiative, re:generations, to Hungary, marking a strategic step in its European sustainability roadmap.

The program, launched in collaboration with Bayer, aims to enroll 30,000 acres (approximately 12,000 hectares) of farmland, primarily high oleic sunflower seeds and soybeans, for the 2025 harvest.

Hungary, one of Europe’s leading producers of sunflower seeds, was selected for its strong agricultural base and rising demand for sustainable sourcing.

ADM’s goal is to support farmers in adopting regenerative practices that improve soil health, biodiversity, and long-term farm resilience.

These practices include minimum tillage, cover and companion cropping, 4R nutrient management, the use of organic matter, and crop rotation.

Participating farmers will receive financial compensation per qualifying hectare, verified through Bayer’s digital tools and Trinity Agtech’s Sandy platform, which ensures scientific rigor and compliance with global sustainability standards.

In addition to monetary support, ADM will provide tailored agronomic guidance, beginning with region-specific assessments and on-farm development plans co-created with local agronomists.

“ADM’s unique position in the supply chain enables us to effectively meet customer demand for our regenerative agriculture program,” said Candy Siekmann, director of climate smart agriculture origination at ADM.

ADM’s re:generations program in Hungary is part of a broader European initiative that already spans Poland, Serbia, Germany, the United Kingdom, and now Hungary, with plans to include more countries such as Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey, and Ukraine over the next two years.

In the broader EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) region, ADM has already enrolled over 80,000 acres in regenerative agriculture, with ambitions to surpass 160,000 acres by the end of 2025.

Since launching its re:generations effort globally, ADM surpassed its 2025 goal by engaging more than 5 million acres worldwide a year ahead of schedule, underscoring the growing adoption and impact of regenerative agriculture.

The initiative also emphasizes peer-to-peer learning, enabling farmers to share techniques and experiences through field visits and community networks.

ADM believes this approach will help revitalize rural communities and foster innovation at the grassroots level.

In parallel, ADM is conducting a feasibility study to evaluate the impact of regenerative practices on carbon reduction, biodiversity enhancement, and soil health.

The findings will inform future scaling efforts across Europe and beyond.

This expansion underscores ADM’s commitment to climate-smart agriculture and its role in helping to shape a more sustainable global food system.
