Vicky Foods invests US$21.6M to double baked goods production capacity in Algeria

The project adds a new warehouse and two production lines, one for sponge cake sheets and one for bread.

ALGERIA – Spanish food manufacturer Vicky Foods is investing €19 million (US$21.59 M) to expand its production facility in Sig, near Oran, doubling the plant’s capacity as it strengthens its position in Algeria’s bakery and confectionery market.

The expansion includes a new building of more than 10,000 square metres, a warehouse and two new production lines dedicated to sponge cake sheets and bread.

The first of the two new lines, dedicated to sponge cake sheets, began operations in July 2026 and adds 7,000 tonnes of annual production capacity.

The line will support the manufacture of new Dulcesol products, including mini snacks, mini rolls, chapelas and square-format pastries. The company markets its baked goods in Algeria under the Dulcesol brand.

A second production line focused on bread is scheduled to begin operations in October.

With an additional capacity of 8,000 tonnes, the line will manufacture products including hamburger buns, sliced bread and other bread varieties.

Together, the two lines are expected to substantially expand the range and volume of baked goods produced locally.

The expansion also includes new technical facilities, including a laboratory for product analysis and another dedicated to product development.

The additional infrastructure is expected to strengthen quality control and support the development of new products for the Algerian market.

Vicky Foods said the investment will create around 100 new jobs in the short and medium term as the expanded facility increases production.

CEO Rafael Juan said the project reinforces the company’s commitment to Algeria and supports its longer-term international growth strategy.

The Sig facility began operating in 2014 and was the group’s first manufacturing site outside Spain.

Vicky Foods runs its Algerian business through a local subsidiary, SARL Dulcesol Maghreb, and has built a national distribution network with commercial hubs in Oran, Tlemcen, Algiers, Boumerdes, Constantine and Annaba. The plant mainly supplies the Algerian market.

The company also operates international production facilities in France and Portugal.

Vicky Foods’ investment comes as Algeria remains an important North African market for the Spanish food manufacturer.

The company reported that its Algerian operations recorded a 20% increase in volume in 2024, highlighting the market’s growing role in its international operations.
