The country continues to expand its list of wheat suppliers while efforts to raise local grain production continue.

The new tender comes after the country made no purchase in its last wheat buying round and continues efforts to secure grain supplies.

The companies will support farmers with funding and technical help as they work to improve soil health, water quality and carbon storage across key wheat growing regions.

New wheat varieties could help Zimbabwe supply both the quantity and quality needed by the country’s baking industry while cutting import costs.

Better harvests across the region could reduce import demand, although North Africa will still rely on overseas supplies to meet consumption.
