Roff launches redesigned 2026 R-40 maize mill for African processors

The 2026 model incorporates a 30% smaller footprint supported by gravity conveying to reduce energy consumption and ease day-to-day maintenance.

SOUTH AFRICA – Roff Milling, a South African-based manufacturer of high-quality maize milling equipment and turnkey plants, has announced the launch of its redesigned 2026 R-40 maize mill, a compact next-generation system engineered to offer the performance of the company’s flagship R-70 in a leaner, more efficient footprint.

The upgrade builds on years of field experience and customer feedback, positioning the R-40 as a strategic option for African millers seeking reliable, scalable technology with lower capital and operational costs.

Introduced in 2021, the original R-40 was developed directly from the R-70’s proven process flow, giving millers a 2–3 ton-per-hour system that replicates the flour quality, extraction levels, and operating simplicity of Roff’s best-selling commercial mill.

The R-70, launched in 2012, has more than 75 installations across the continent and remains one of the most widely recognised mid-size maize milling platforms in Africa.

Its design principles, robust construction, straightforward operation, and consistent performance form the engineering backbone of the new R-40.

The 2026 model incorporates several technology upgrades first introduced on the R-70 line. These include a redesigned layout with a 30% smaller footprint supported by gravity conveying to reduce energy consumption and ease day-to-day maintenance.

The unit features the new DGX degerminator, now standard across all R-40 installations, which offers cleaner separation, reduced wear, and lower power requirements.

Roff has also added the VTN vitamin doser, a precision micronutrient fortification system aligned with growing regional mandates for fortified staple foods.

A modern dark-grey industrial frame gives the system a refreshed appearance while supporting shorter lead times.

The combination of reduced moving parts and simplified process flow helps the R-40 maintain extraction efficiencies of 69–74% for super maize meal and 79–84% for special or breakfast meal, depending on maize quality and regional product specifications.

The company positions the redesigned R-40 as an attractive solution for small and medium-scale entrepreneurs, millers expanding into new markets, and processors diversifying their product range.

With minimal civil works required and a largely pre-assembled turnkey configuration, installation can typically be completed within a month.

In addition, a small operating team, one operator and three to four packers per shift, can run the system with limited training, meeting the needs of millers in markets such as Zambia, Kenya, Malawi, and South Africa.

“Every Roff mill reflects our belief that success comes from simplicity, reliability, and profitability,” said Charl Marais, Managing Director at Roff Industries.

According to him, with the 2026 R-40, the company has taken everything customers loved about the original and reimagined it for the future, smarter, leaner, and ready for Africa’s growing food industry.

Each R-40 mill includes cleaning, conditioning, degermination, milling, grading, product bins, control panels, wiring, and training as part of a complete turnkey package.

Designed and manufactured in Kroonstad, Roff’s systems benefit from decades of local expertise and an expanding technical support network across more than 30 African countries.
