Morocco approves OCP Nutricrops expansion into France and India

The move strengthens the group’s global reach as demand for fertilizers rises across key markets.

MOROCCO – The Moroccan government has approved plans by OCP Group to set up new OCP Nutricrops subsidiaries in France and India, marking a fresh step in the company’s global growth.

Official decrees published earlier this month confirmed the decision, which supports OCP’s effort to grow its presence in major agricultural markets.

In France, OCP Nutricrops will launch a new company with a capital of €26 million, about $28 million. The unit will manage marketing activities across Europe and develop fertilization products suited to local soil and crop needs.

“The new company will be tasked with coordinating marketing activities in Europe and developing specialized fertilization products,” the official statement said.

OCP is entering a market that already shows strong competition and high maturity. At the same time, demand continues to rise for low-carbon and sustainable fertilizers. The government said the move will support efforts to shift toward more eco-friendly farming systems in Europe.

The government also cleared the creation of a subsidiary in India. This unit will focus on producing and selling fertilizers designed for India’s varied soils and crops. It will also handle exports of phosphate-based products and support research and logistics.

“This presence will strengthen proximity to fertilizer consumers and improve commercial responsiveness,” the decree noted.

India remains one of the largest fertilizer markets in the world. The government highlighted the need for solutions that match local farming conditions.

Rising global demand

The expansion comes at a time when countries seek stable fertilizer supplies. India has already held talks with Morocco and other suppliers to secure imports as supply routes face pressure in the Middle East. The country has also signed long-term agreements that include about 2.5 million tonnes per year from Morocco.

OCP’s role extends beyond India. The company recently sold 90,000 tonnes of phosphate fertilizers to Latin America for April shipment. The United States has also held talks with Morocco over future supply.

OCP Group reported revenues of about US$11.4 billion last year, a 17 percent increase. Morocco holds some of the world’s largest phosphate reserves, and OCP continues to play a central role in turning these resources into fertilizers used across global agriculture.

Alongside its global push, the group continues to invest across Africa, where it supports food production through partnerships and supply programs aimed at improving farm output.
