Jungbunzlauer expands U.S. manufacturing footprint with acquisition of IFF site in Illinois

Jungbunzlauer plans to repurpose the site to meet its specific production needs, with operational planning already underway.

SWITZERLAND – Jungbunzlauer, a global leader in sustainable ingredients derived from natural sources, has announced a strategic acquisition of a multipurpose production facility in Thomson, Illinois from International Flavors & Fragrances Inc. (IFF).

The move marks a significant milestone in the Swiss-based company’s expansion into the North American market, reinforcing its commitment to localized production and customer proximity.

The deal, expected to close in early Q4 2025, is structured as an asset purchase and does not include IFF’s commercial business, product lines, or employees.

Financial terms remain undisclosed.

Jungbunzlauer plans to repurpose the site to meet its specific production needs, with operational planning already underway.

Future hiring and facility updates will be announced as the transition progresses.

“This acquisition is an important step in delivering on our strategic capacity expansion in North America,” said Bruno Tremblay, CEO of Jungbunzlauer.

“Establishing a U.S. manufacturing footprint allows us to work closer to many of our U.S. customers, better understand their challenges, and deliver solutions that truly make a difference”.

Headquartered in Basel, Switzerland, Jungbunzlauer serves over 130 countries and operates large-scale fermentation facilities across Europe and North America.

Its product portfolio spans texturants, acidulants, sweeteners, minerals, and tailored solutions for industries including food and beverage, nutrition, health, and personal care.

The Thomson site acquisition is expected to enhance supply chain resilience, reduce lead times, and support sustainable production practices.

It also positions Jungbunzlauer to respond more swiftly to evolving market demands in the U.S., where consumer and regulatory focus on clean-label, bio-based ingredients continues to grow.

The company’s expansion reflects a broader industry trend toward regional manufacturing hubs, which aim to minimize environmental impact and improve service agility.

By embedding itself more deeply in the U.S. market, Jungbunzlauer is positioned to strengthen its relationships with domestic partners and reinforce its role as a trusted supplier of naturally derived ingredients.

This move further strengthens the company’s strategy to grow through targeted capacity investments and geographic expansion.

As the transition unfolds, Jungbunzlauer’s leadership has emphasized its long-term vision: to deliver high-quality, sustainable solutions that enhance everyday life, now with a stronger foothold in one of the world’s most dynamic consumer markets.
