KENYA – Broadway Group of Companies, one of Kenya’s most established food manufacturers, has been awarded the prestigious Bread Brand of the Year title at the FMCG Consumer Awards 2025-2026, cementing its long-standing reputation as a household name in the country’s baking industry.
Broadway Group of Companies is primarily a milling and baking organisation in Kenya that has been producing fresh, high-quality and great-tasting flour and bread products for over 50 years.
The Group is a multi-generation, family-run enterprise primarily formed of Broadway Bakery Limited and Bakex Millers Limited.
The FMCG Bread Brand of the Year accolade reflects the company’s sustained dominance in a highly competitive consumer market.
Broadway has endured since its inception in 1958 as a small bakery in Thika town, Kiambu County.
It was founded by the late Sobhagchand Shah and Ratilal Shah, two brothers who established the business before Kenya gained independence.
The company, which produces the Broadways and New Seneta brands, has grown from a one-deck oven bakery to one of Kenya’s leading bakeries.
Established over 60 years ago by the Shah family, Broadway has grown from a small bakery producing scones to a significant player in Kenya’s bread market, producing up to 240,000 loaves daily.
The company has a history of embracing cutting-edge technologies, such as automated bread production lines sourced from Dutch supplier Royal Kaak, which was implemented to streamline production while meeting high demand.
This technological investment has been instrumental in maintaining Broadway’s position in the market, enabling the company to deliver quality products consistently while managing high-capacity production.
A Statista report revealed that Kenyans primarily choose three major bread brands: Supa Loaf, Festive, and Broadways, which have emerged as the top three most popular brands in the country.
The FMCG Award win reinforces Broadway’s position among this elite group and reflects its enduring consumer trust.
The recognition adds to a growing list of accolades for the group. The company previously received the “Bread Brand of the Year” award at the FMCG Brands Kenya Awards 2024-2025 and the prestigious Innovation Award from Lesaffre.
More recently, Broadways Group of Companies was named the Superbrand East Africa’s Choice for 2024 to 2026, recognizing its steadfast commitment to quality, reliability, and excellence in food production.
Additionally, Broadway Bakery Limited received international recognition from the European Society for Quality Research (ESQR), securing the Quality Achievements Award 2025 in the Gold Category, celebrated at a ceremony held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
