GERMANY – ADM, a global leader in agricultural origination and processing, has partnered with Berlin-based Klim, a European provider of Scope 3 solutions for agriculture, to broaden the reach of its re:generations regenerative agriculture program.
The initiative, announced on January 23, will now include farmers in Germany cultivating wheat, rapeseed, and soybeans.
The re:generations program offers financial incentives and agronomic support to farmers adopting regenerative agricultural practices aimed at building a more resilient food system.
These practices include precision fertilizer application, conservation tillage, cover cropping, increasing biodiversity habitats, and companion cropping. By implementing these methods, farmers can improve soil health, biodiversity, climate resilience, and water resources while advancing the sustainability of their farming operations.
Klim will play a vital role in onboarding farmers and enhancing the program by offering monitoring, reporting, and verification services.
ADM and Klim have identified over 30 key performance indicators that farmers can use to evaluate the impact of their efforts. These metrics, derived from comprehensive farm-level data, enable farmers to make data-driven decisions on the most suitable regenerative practices for their operations.
ADM highlighted that the analysis provided through the partnership will also be utilized to account for the program’s results within the company’s Scope 3 emissions inventory.
Participating farmers are incentivized per hectare to integrate regenerative practices, with the program targeting enrollment of 60,000 acres (about 24,281 hectares) in Germany by 2025.
This expansion follows the program’s earlier launches in the United Kingdom and Poland and is part of ADM’s broader commitment to supporting regenerative agriculture across 5 million acres globally by 2025.
“We’re excited to support farmers in strengthening their businesses and their futures across Europe, including with the expansion of our re:generations program into Germany,” said Candy Siekmann, director of Climate Smart Agriculture Origination at ADM.
According to Siekmann, the program follows a comprehensive design that gathers data from across entire farms and provides farmers with tools to better position their farm for the future and help reduce and sequester emissions.
“Very few companies touch every part of the value chain, from farmer to consumer, the way ADM does, representing a unique opportunity to connect every step of that value chain,” he noted.
In addition, farmers participating in the program will benefit from expert training delivered by Klim agronomists and a hybrid model that rewards both the adoption of new practices and the continuation of existing ones.
This approach helps farmers reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve soil health, and quantify the carbon sequestration benefits of their efforts.
Key elements contributing to the program’s success include robust data collection, ongoing feedback from farmers, and region-specific considerations.
Robert Gerlach, CEO and founder of Klim, emphasized the significance of the collaboration.
“By combining ADM’s resources and farming network with Klim’s data and analytics-driven approach and regenerative expertise, we are spearheading an industry-wide shift toward a more resilient, sustainable food system. This partnership is a powerful model for how collaboration across the entire value chain can deliver both environmental impact and economic resilience at scale.”
