Lotus Bakeries to invest US$576M in Biscoff expansion as global demand grows

The company plans to invest around €500m (US$576.3m) across the sites in Belgium, the US and Thailand by 2030.

BELGIUM – Lotus Bakeries has announced a massive capital expenditure program, committing at least €500 million (US$576.3 million) between 2026 and 2030 to expand global manufacturing capacity for its iconic Biscoff brand.

The strategic investment, the largest in the company’s history, comes in direct response to booming international consumer demand for Biscoff cookies, spreads, and co-branded food products.

The multi-year expansion program will focus on scaling up operations across three key global production hubs: Lembeke in Belgium, Mebane in North Carolina (US), and Chonburi in Thailand.

The projects are designed to support rising global demand for the brand while increasing manufacturing flexibility across Europe & the Middle East, the Americas and Asia-Pacific.

In North Carolina, where Lotus Bakeries opened its first US factory in 2019, funds will be channeled into building a new dedicated production hall for Biscoff cookies and spreads, set to be operational by mid-2028.

Meanwhile, in Thailand, following the successful launch of its greenfield Chonburi plant earlier this year, the company has already begun work on a second production facility to support rapidly growing market demand across the Asia-Pacific region.

The announcement accompanied Lotus Bakeries’ strong financial performance for the first half of 2026.

The company reported a 14% year-on-year surge in total revenue to €749.1 million (US$866M), alongside a 23.5% jump in net profit to €98.1 million (US$113.4M).

Biscoff remained the standout growth driver, posting revenue and volume gains exceeding 20%. Europe generated the largest absolute sales increase, while the United States retained its position as the brand’s fastest-growing market, achieving a household penetration rate of over 10%.

Growth has been further accelerated by strategic co-branding partnerships. Lotus Bakeries recently expanded its collaboration with global confectionery giant Mondelēz International, integrating Biscoff into chocolate products across major brands like Cadbury, Milka, Toblerone, Suchard, Freia, and Marabou.

Additionally, the group’s Natural Foods division, which includes healthy snacking brands such as nākd., TREK, and BEAR, continued to deliver robust double-digit growth.

Addressing the decision to ramp up capital spending, Lotus Bakeries Chief Executive Officer Jan Boone highlighted that the company is taking a long-term view to ensure global supply keeps pace with popular momentum.

Management projects that capital expenditure across 2026 and 2027 alone will surpass €250 million (US$289M) as construction accelerates across all three operational sites.
