The agreement will bring mycorrhiza based products and a carbon credit program to farmers in Latin America and Europe before expanding into other markets.

SWITZERLAND – Syngenta and Groundwork BioAg have signed a strategic partnership to expand the use of mycorrhiza based biological products and soil carbon solutions, giving farmers access to crop inputs that support soil health while creating income through carbon credits.
The partnership will first focus on corn, soybeans, cereals and sunflower production in Latin America and Europe, with plans to extend product distribution to additional markets. Under the agreement, Syngenta will market the products under its own brand, while Groundwork BioAg will manage manufacturing, supply, digital tools and the carbon program.
The companies said farmers using the products can improve nutrient and water uptake, strengthen crop performance and receive income from carbon credits through the linked carbon program.
“The model we’ve built with Groundwork BioAg goes beyond farming carbon. It builds resilience, restores soil health, and accumulates long term carbon stocks at a remarkable pace, while generating carbon credits from which farmers directly benefit. We see this as a natural evolution of what carbon programs can achieve. This new offering perfectly fits within Syngenta’s sustainability goal of supporting farmers to produce higher yield while lowering impact on the environment,” said Petra Laux, Chief Sustainability Officer of Syngenta Group.
Groundwork BioAg Chief Executive Officer Alon Werber said the partnership combines the strengths of both companies.
“By combining Syngenta’s market access with our proven mycorrhizal capabilities, we are positioning mycorrhizal fungi as both a valuable agronomic input and a significant pathway for agricultural climate mitigation through our end to end carbon program,” Werber said.
Syngenta Global Head of Seedcare and Biologicals Emilhano Lima said biological products continue to play a larger role in farming.
“This partnership reflects how biologicals are increasingly becoming a central part of agriculture. Nature inspired solutions give farmers effective, reliable tools, while also providing concrete agronomical returns,” Lima said.
The partnership builds on growing interest in soil carbon sequestration, where plants capture carbon dioxide through photosynthesis and store it in the soil with help from biological activity. Mycorrhizal fungi form natural relationships with plant roots, helping crops absorb nutrients and water while improving soil quality over time. Healthier soils can also store more carbon, retain moisture better and help crops perform well during dry conditions.
The companies said the agreement also supports wider efforts to increase the use of biological crop inputs alongside carbon programs that reward farmers for practices that improve soil health and store carbon for the long term.
