PepsiCo reports strong progress toward 2030 agriculture goals with expanded sustainable sourcing

The update underscores PepsiCo‘s commitment to building a more sustainable food system while supporting farmers and reducing environmental impacts across its global operations.

USAPepsiCo has reported progress toward its 2030 Positive Agriculture (pep+) goals, highlighting gains in scaling regenerative agriculture, advancing sustainable sourcing, and improving livelihoods across its global agricultural supply chain.

The corporate update outlines widespread progress in scaling regenerative farming, expanding sustainable sourcing, and uplifting farming communities worldwide.

By partnering directly with growers and industry peers, the company aims to establish a more resilient agricultural footprint that protects natural resources while meeting long-term supply chain needs.

PepsiCo continues working toward its goal to sustainably source 90% of its key ingredients in accordance with its guidelines by 2030, alongside progress volumes of 10% or less that face systemic barriers to sustainable sourcing.

The update covered gains in scaling regenerative agriculture, restorative and protective practices, and advancing sustainable sourcing.

Under its refined 2030 framework, the company’s Positive Agriculture agenda also targets a 30% reduction in Scope 3 forest, land and agriculture emissions against a 2022 baseline, alongside continued progress toward deforestation- and conversion-free sourcing for high-risk commodities.

According to the company’s latest metrics, PepsiCo has successfully expanded its regenerative, restorative, and protective farming practices to cover 4.7 million acres globally.

This achievement places the enterprise nearly halfway toward its ultimate target of 10 million acres by 2030.

Company leadership emphasized that this growth was driven primarily by deeper farmer engagement and localized innovations during the past year.

“As we continue work to help advance toward a more resilient and sustainable food system, I’m proud of the notable progress we’re making, particularly in scaling regenerative agriculture, restorative or protective practices and expanding opportunities that help strengthen livelihoods,” said Jim Andrew, Chief Sustainability Officer and Executive Vice President at PepsiCo.

Sustainable sourcing also saw a significant boost, with PepsiCo reporting that 70% of its key ingredients are now sustainably sourced in accordance with PepsiCo’s Sustainable Sourcing Guidelines.

An additional 2% of the company’s total ingredient volumes are actively moving toward these metrics under an “Engaged” development pathway.

To help systematically address supply chain barriers, the company also launched the Supporting Trusted Engagement and Partnership (STEP) Up for Agriculture initiative.

This collaborative project, joined by Unilever and several other large food and beverage companies and retail customers, aims to strengthen farmer-facing organizations by building capabilities, advancing regenerative practices, providing technical assistance, and supporting more sustainable supply chains.

Beyond environmental metrics, the report highlighted substantial progress regarding social responsibility and economic empowerment.

Since 2021, the company has positively supported approximately 224,000 individuals across its global agricultural supply chain through specialized livelihood programs.

This brings the company within striking distance of its 2030 goal to improve the livelihoods of more than 250,000 people. Programs driving this success include regional efforts such as Agrovita in Mexico and the Collaborative Farming Programme in India, both of which focus on enhancing farm worker security and elevating productivity.

Moving forward, the multinational company intends to embed further metrics for biodiversity, watershed resilience, and deforestation monitoring into its sourcing hubs.

By leveraging advanced data tracking and tracing technologies, the firm plans to sustain this operational momentum.
