PepsiCo India inaugurates second flavour manufacturing facility with US$133M investment
The 22 acre site will produce concentrates for PepsiCo‘s product portfolio and is part of a larger Rs 5,700 crore (US$598.67M) investment pipeline the company has committed to India through 2030.
INDIA – PepsiCo India has officially commissioned its state-of-the-art flavour manufacturing facility in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, marking the company’s second flavour plant in the country and its ninth global concentrate facility.
Built with an investment of Rs 1,266 crore (US$133.0M), the massive 22-acre plant stands as one of the company’s most significant manufacturing expansions in the country.
The site is engineered to produce beverage concentrates for PepsiCo’s iconic global drinks portfolio, directly catering to the rapidly climbing consumer demand across South Asia.
The newly inaugurated plant represents PepsiCo’s second flavour manufacturing site in India, joining its existing hub in Channo, Punjab, and its ninth facility of this kind globally.
The installation is a key component of PepsiCo’s broader, long-term strategic blueprint, which includes an active investment pipeline of Rs 5,700 crore (US$598.67M) committed to the Indian market through 2030.
According to corporate executives, the establishment of the Ujjain site aligns directly with the government’s regional manufacturing initiatives, emphasizing localized supply chains under an “In India, For India” corporate strategy.
Beyond industrial output, the industrial complex is projected to act as a localized economic catalyst by creating approximately 500 direct and indirect employment opportunities.
It will also foster ancillary business growth and the development of logistical infrastructure across central India.
The company already maintains a strong commercial presence in Madhya Pradesh through its collaborative farming network, which currently partners with more than 2,000 local agriculturalists to securely source chip-grade potatoes for its snacks division.
In addition to scaling corporate manufacturing capacity, the facility incorporates advanced environmental infrastructure aligned with the company’s global sustainability targets.
The plant operates entirely on renewable energy sources, a shift estimated to lower its localized carbon footprint by 1.9 metric tons per day.
Furthermore, by utilizing specialized Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) treatment technologies, the facility is designed to secure roughly 90% overall water efficiency while working to replenish 100% of the total water volume utilized throughout its industrial operations.
The facility was virtually inaugurated by Dr. Mohan Yadav, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, alongside Eugene Willemsen, Chief Executive Officer, International Beverages, PepsiCo; Jagrut Kotecha, CEO, India and South Asia, PepsiCo; and Evan Norton, General Manager and Senior Vice President, PepsiCo Global Concentrate Solutions.
