Together, these launches highlight how major British food brands are reimagining traditional products to balance heritage with modern consumption trends.

UK – Pladis has expanded its beloved McVitie’s portfolio with the launch of limited-edition McVitie’s Digestives Jaffa Cakes flavour, while Tesco expands its premium bakery range with pioneering potato burger rolls made with real mashed potato.
McVitie’s, owned by Pladis Global, has launched a new Jaffa Cakes-flavoured Digestives line, bringing together the chocolate-orange identity of its best-known cake snack with the heritage appeal of its classic digestive biscuit.
The new product aims to combine two long-standing British favourites into a single format that appeals to both nostalgic consumers and younger shoppers seeking novel flavour experiences.

The innovation reflects a broader trend in the UK snack market, where legacy brands are increasingly experimenting with crossover flavours to reinvigorate mature product categories.
The new hybrid product swaps out the signature sponge base of a traditional Jaffa Cake for a golden-baked, dunkable McVitie’s Digestive biscuit base.
This is topped with the unmistakable tangy Jaffa orange-flavoured layer and finished with a rich coating of smooth milk chocolate.
Initial consumer trials indicate that the flavour profile leans authentically toward the classic, sharp Jaffa citrus note rather than toward standard orange-chocolate confectionery.
The treats have launched exclusively in Sainsbury’s stores at a recommended retail price of £2.35 (US$3.16) per pack, with a nationwide rollout across all major supermarkets and convenience stores scheduled for June 29th.
Simultaneously, Tesco is looking to capitalize on the peak summer barbecue season by introducing Tesco Finest Potato Burger Rolls as part of a sweeping premium private-label bakery expansion.
The grocery giant states that these are the first supermarket own-label burger buns in the United Kingdom to be formulated using real mashed potato rather than standard dehydrated potato flakes.

This ingredient choice is designed to mirror the soft, squishy, and resilient potato buns popularized by cult urban dining chains like Shake Shack and Supernova, allowing shoppers to replicate gourmet, restaurant-quality smash burgers at home.
Retailing at £1.85 (US$2.49) for a pack of four, the potato rolls represent just one of 22 new premium lines debuting in the Tesco Finest bakery range this week.
Other additions rolling out nationwide to target affluent consumers include Hot Honey Sub Rolls, Chilli Pinsa, White Chocolate and Blueberry Scones, Ancient Grains Bloomer, Fruited Sourdough, Sourdough Crumpets, and Sourdough Bagels, highlighting an industry-wide shift toward premium private-label bakery offerings.
