This move comes as Zimbabwe sets a record target of 120,000 hectares under winter wheat cultivation in 2025, aiming to produce 600,000 tonnes.
While this marks a slight recovery from the 2.46 million tonnes harvested in 2024-25, the USDA reports that it remains significantly below the 4.15 million tonnes produced in 2023-24.
Total wheat consumption in 2025-26 is expected to reach 20.4 million tonnes, which would be up nearly 1.5% from 2024-25.
The wheat harvest for 2025-26 is anticipated to remain steady at 3 MMT, with barley production projected at 1.2 MMT.
