Silos Spain Group unveils advanced grain storage facility in Romania

Designed to endure seismic activity and support snow loads up to 200 kg/m², the new installation reinforces the group’s ongoing commitment to delivering reliable, climate-resilient solutions for the agribusiness sector.

ROMANIA – Silos Spain Group, a global leader in the design, manufacturing, and installation of cutting-edge storage solutions for the agri-food sector, has officially completed the construction of a high-specification grain storage facility in Romania.

The facility features three flat-bottom silos, each 14 meters in diameter and capable of holding 1,900 cubic meters of grain.

Designed to endure seismic activity and support snow loads up to 200 kg/m², the new installation reinforces the group’s ongoing commitment to delivering reliable, climate-resilient solutions for the agribusiness sector.

According to the company, the facility is engineered with both performance and safety in mind, to include a buffer silo to ensure a seamless flow of grain into the drying unit and a farm silo dedicated to handling the straw by-product from the drying process.

These additions support efficient post-harvest handling and storage, critical to maintaining grain quality and streamlining logistics.

Special features such as shell ladders for secure access, maximum level detectors for optimal grain monitoring, ventilation grates, elevated platforms, modular catwalks, and a manual discharge gate have been incorporated to ensure safe, controlled, and efficient operation. These innovations reflect Silos Spain Group’s mission to provide turnkey, fully tailored storage solutions adaptable to varying project needs and environmental demands.

The Romanian facility comes at a strategic time when the country is reinforcing its position as a key player in the European grain trade.

As of early 2025, Romania had exported over 3.2 million tons of wheat and 1.36 million tons of barley, making it one of the EU’s top grain exporters. Its advantageous location and expanding infrastructure, such as the newly upgraded Port of Constanta and Europe’s largest railway transshipment terminal in Dornesti, making it a crucial hub for agricultural exports to Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.

In addition, the design, manufacturing, and installation of cutting-edge storage solutions giant recently celebrated two significant achievements in Latin America, underscoring its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and operational excellence.

In Bolivia, the company announced the completion of the first phase of a 60,000-ton soybean storage facility. This facility, now fully operational, boasts an impressive storage capacity of 60,000 tons, distributed across six silos, each with a volume of 17,900 m³.

In Chile, Silos Spain Group completed the installation of a state-of-the-art 4,000-ton wheat silo at Alisur’s facility.

Designed to withstand seismic activity, this model complies with international safety standards, ensuring the protection of stored grains even in the event of an earthquake. The structure is built using ProMag-coated steel, an advanced aluminium-magnesium-zinc alloy that significantly enhances durability and corrosion resistance.
