Morocco’s OCP Nutricrops to boost TSP fertiliser production by end of 2025

TSP is especially valuable for nutrient-deficient soils and precision agriculture.

MOROCCO – Morocco’s state-backed phosphate giant, OCP Group, is ramping up its production of Triple Superphosphate (TSP) fertiliser, aiming to reach 7 million tonnes by the close of 2025.

This strategic move reinforces OCP’s position as a global leader in phosphate-based fertilisers and responds to rising global demand for high-phosphorus inputs in agriculture.

The expansion is driven by the commissioning of two new production lines at the Jorf Lasfar industrial platform, each contributing 500,000 tonnes annually.

With current output already surpassing 5 million tonnes, the additional capacity will significantly enhance OCP’s supply of concentrated phosphate fertilisers, particularly TSP, which contains over 90% phosphorus in a plant-available form.

“The TSP Hub represents a major step in our phosphate fertiliser production strategy,” said Youssef El Bari, CEO of OCP Nutricrops.

“It strengthens our ability to deliver high agronomic value fertilisers, tailored to the specific needs of soils and farmers around the world, while enhancing our industrial precision, performance, and capacity.”

TSP is especially valuable for nutrient-deficient soils and precision agriculture, making it a key product in OCP’s portfolio alongside diammonium phosphate (DAP), the world’s most widely used phosphate fertiliser.

The company’s broader strategy includes the Mzinda-Meskala strategic program (SP2M), which targets a total fertiliser capacity increase of 9 million tonnes by 2028.

This includes the development of two new industrial hubs in Youssoufia and Essaouira, designed to integrate renewable energy, desalinated water, and advanced automation technologies.

OCP’s expansion is not just about volume; it’s about agility and customisation. The TSP Hub program allows for tailored formulations to meet the specific needs of farmers across diverse geographies.

This industrial flexibility is central to OCP’s ambition to deliver sustainable, high-performance fertilisers globally.

With Morocco holding 73% of the world’s phosphate reserves, OCP’s growth is underpinned by unmatched resource access.

The group already controls 30% of the global phosphate market and is strengthening its footprint in Africa, Latin America, and Asia.

As global agriculture faces mounting challenges, OCP’s investment in TSP production signals a commitment to innovation, sustainability, and food security.

Amid rising global demand for phosphate fertilisers, Morocco’s OCP Group is strengthening its position as a prominent supplier of innovative, eco-conscious, and tailored agricultural solutions through its TSP Hub program.
