Louis Dreyfus Company opens laboratory in China to expand value-added food, feed solutions

The laboratory will be operated jointly with the Food Laboratory of Zhongyuan, a leading provincial research and innovation organization.

CHINA – Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) has inaugurated a new collaborative laboratory in Luohe, Henan Province, China, reinforcing its global strategy to expand further into the nutritional value chain with more value-added products and ingredients.

Announced on September 24, the laboratory will be operated jointly with the Food Laboratory of Zhongyuan, a leading provincial research and innovation organization.

Covering 930 square meters, the facility will focus on research and collaboration opportunities in human nutrition, pet food, and animal feed applications.

LDC said the new laboratory will tap into its Food & Feed Solutions Platform portfolio, which includes lecithin, vitamin E, glycerin, emulsifiers, and other functional ingredients, to develop new formulations tailored to Chinese market demand.

Capitalizing on Luohe’s position as a major food hub in China, LDC’s global expertise across the food value chain and its focus on innovation, as well as the state-of-the-art facilities and research capabilities of the Food Laboratory of Zhongyuan, the new laboratory will help accelerate our growth plans in the value-added food and feed ingredients area,” said Jerrity Chen, head of North Asia for LDC.

Chen added that this development reflects LDC’s long-term commitment to growing with the Chinese market – in this case, through the development of innovative product and process applications for the food and feed sectors.”

The company noted that the Luohe laboratory’s strategic location will allow close engagement with leading food and feed companies in the region. This will support the development of tailored formulations and application scenarios for targeted segments, including pet food, beverages, snacks, and baked goods.

The laboratory’s strategic location in Luohe, as a major food hub in China, will enable LDC to engage with leading food and feed companies in the region to develop tailored formulations, dosage forms and innovative application scenarios for targeted segments, including pet food, beverages, snacks and baked goods – for example, lysolecithin applications in food production,” said Shengshu Huang, chief technology officer and head of Specialty Feed Ingredients for North Asia at LDC.

The Luohe project comes shortly after LDC broke ground in June on its new Food Technology Park in Dongjiakou, Qingdao, Shandong Province.

According to the company, that facility will integrate oilseeds crushing, specialty feed protein processing, and the production of food-grade lecithin, further strengthening LDC’s position in China’s food and feed markets.
