With an estimated investment of US$600 million, the plant is anticipated to begin operations by 2028

JORDAN- The Jordan Phosphate Mines Company (JPMC) and the Arab Potash Company (APC) have signed a landmark agreement to establish an integrated industrial complex for the production of phosphoric acid, purified phosphoric acid, and specialised fertilisers.
With an estimated investment of US$ 600 million, the project is expected to move Jordan further into downstream processing, shifting away from raw material exports toward value-added manufacturing.
The plant is anticipated to begin operations by 2028, following feasibility studies conducted by the engineering firm Technip.
The project, which represents one of the most ambitious industrial collaborations in Jordan’s mining sector, will be developed across two strategic locations: the Aqaba Special Economic Zone and Al Shidiyeh near Ma’an.
The agreement was signed on July 30 by JPMC Chairman Mohammed Thneibat and APC Chairman Shihadeh Abu Hdeib, along with the companies’ CEOs, Abdul Wahab Rawwad and Maen Nsour.
According to a joint statement released by the companies, the project reflects the growing alignment between Jordan’s major industrial players and the country’s Economic Modernisation Vision.
“This initiative represents a strategic transformation that will enhance Jordan’s position as a global producer and exporter of high-value, specialised fertilisers,” the statement read.
The complex will produce purified phosphoric acid, a crucial input in speciality phosphate and potash fertilisers, as well as in non-agricultural sectors including food, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics.
The initiative complements JPMC’s broader industrial expansion strategy, which includes a US$ 90 million upgrade of its Aqaba Industrial Complex to increase phosphoric acid output and a US$ 100 million flotation plant at Al Shidiyeh to boost high-grade phosphate recovery.
Meanwhile, APC continues to diversify its potash portfolio through investments in R&D and sustainable production, supported by its new strategy for 2024–2028.
In addition to its industrial goals, the new complex is expected to contribute significantly to job creation. The companies plan to roll out training and upskilling programmes for Jordanian engineers and technicians, supporting the development of local talent in advanced chemical manufacturing.
