Italian flour miller expands US retail presence through partnership

The agreement will make Caputo’s “00” Baking Flour and “00” Bread Flour available across all 20 Woodman’s locations, strengthening the company’s access to American home bakers and culinary enthusiasts.

USAItaly-based flour miller Caputo Flour is expanding its footprint in the United States through a new retail partnership with Wisconsin-based grocery chain Woodman’s Food Markets.

The Naples-founded miller is bringing its “00” flours to Woodman’s, with the lineup including “00” baking flour designed for light baked goods such as pastries, cakes, cookies, and tarts, and “00” bread flour formulated for strong volume in breads, including artisanal loaves, focaccia, and ciabatta.

Caputo, which also maintains a base of operations in Glen Rock, New Jersey, and is known for generations of milling expertise, said the move builds on its broader push to grow its presence among US consumers.

Both flour varieties are set to reach all 20 Woodman’s stores, which span from northern Wisconsin to the greater Chicago area, with full availability beginning September 21.

Inventory began arriving at Woodman’s locations on August 21, with the rollout expected to be complete across all stores by the end of September.

The timing of the launch is notable given Woodman’s standing in the US grocery sector.

In dunnhumby’s ninth annual Retailer Preference Index, released in January 2026, Woodman’s ranked third among US grocery retailers, trailing only H-E-B and Market Basket while outranking larger chains such as Costco and Trader Joe’s.

That index evaluates retailers on customer perception and financial performance, weighing factors such as value, pricing, promotions and loyalty rewards as key drivers of long-term success in the grocery business.

Company officials described Woodman’s scale and reputation as making it a natural fit for Caputo as the brand works to widen its reach with American shoppers.

The Woodman’s deal adds to a growing wave of interest in Italian “00” flour among American home bakers and foodservice operators, driven in part by the continued popularity of artisan pizza and bread-making.

Industry analysts have pointed to steady demand growth for premium Italian milling brands in North America as consumers increasingly seek out authentic ingredients for home baking projects, a trend that has accelerated coverage of specialty and heritage millers entering broader US retail channels.

For Caputo, the partnership provides an opportunity to build on its existing US retail presence while introducing more American consumers to Italian-style specialty flour products.

Since its founding in 1924, Caputo has used traditional milling techniques to locally develop flours without additives for a wide variety of baked foods, including pizza, pasta, and bread.
