A major private equity deal in the natural food ingredients sector has been finalized, as a Pennsylvania-based investment firm cements its entry into the booming plant-based market.

USA – Guardian Capital Partners, an operationally focused private equity firm based in Wayne, Pennsylvania, has announced the acquisition of Nügredient Solutions (“Nügredient”), a premier developer and manufacturer of specialty nut-based and plant-based ingredient solutions.
This marks the fourth platform investment for Guardian Capital Partners Fund IV.
Headquartered in Modesto, California, Nügredient Solutions was founded in 2008 and has established a strong position as a developer and manufacturer of speciality nut- and plant-based ingredient solutions.
The company serves consumer packaged goods and foodservice customers across North America, offering customized formulations supported by vertically integrated sourcing and manufacturing.
The transaction also marks Guardian’s first platform investment within the Food & Beverage sector of its proprietary Guardian Priority Sector (“GPS”) Program. This thesis-driven strategy channels the firm’s focus, expertise, and relationships toward specific sectors of interest.
The GPS Program reflects Guardian’s deliberate, sector-by-sector approach to identifying high-growth industries where its operational expertise can add measurable value.
As consumer demand shifts toward “better-for-you” products and clean-label ingredients, Nügredient’s focus on minimally processed, natural inputs has positioned it as a critical supplier for brands looking to differentiate their nutritional profiles.
Guardian has partnered with Bob Farinha, co-founder and CEO, who will retain a meaningful ownership stake and continue to lead the company’s executive team and operations following the acquisition.
Farinha expressed optimism about the road ahead. “The partnership with Guardian represents an exciting milestone for Nügredient as we enter our next phase of growth,” he said, adding that the deal would allow the company to deepen existing customer relationships and expand its capabilities to new clients.
As consumer preferences continue to shift toward better-for-you and functional food products, ingredient quality, nutrition profile, and versatility have become critical drivers of differentiation.
Guardian believes Nügredient is well positioned to benefit from these macro trends through its specialized development and manufacturing capabilities, enabling it to collaborate closely with CPG brands, foodservice operators, and co-manufacturers to develop customized nut- and plant-based ingredients.
The acquisition of Nügredient Solutions signals the firm’s growing confidence in the future of plant-based food innovation.
