The center is expected to strengthen the Netherlands’ position as a hub for food and biotech innovation.

NETHERLANDS – dsm-firmenich, a leading innovator in nutrition, health, and beauty, has officially inaugurated its Van Marken Food Innovation Center in Delft, the Netherlands, marking a major milestone in its mission to transform the future of food.
Strategically located on the Dutch Biotech Campus in Delft, the new facility is designed to drive innovation in taste, texture, and health, while honoring the company’s 155-year legacy in food and biotechnology.
The center will serve as the global headquarters for dsm-firmenich’s €3 billion (US$3.5B) Taste, Texture & Health business unit, bringing together over 400 employees across cutting-edge labs, tasting rooms, and co-creation kitchens.
These spaces are tailored to support the development of plant-based alternatives, sugar reduction solutions, and nutritionally enhanced foods for the bakery, dairy, and brewery industries.
Named after Dutch entrepreneur Jacques van Marken, founder of the Yeast and Spirits Factory, later known as Gist-Brocades, the center pays tribute to Delft’s pioneering role in food science and social innovation.
Van Marken’s holistic approach to business and community continues to inspire dsm-firmenich’s values today.
As a model of sustainability, the building has earned WELL Platinum and BREEAM Outstanding certifications, reflecting the highest standards in environmental performance and workplace health.
This aligns with dsm-firmenich’s broader commitment to creating food systems that are both people- and planet-friendly.
Patrick Niels, President of the Taste, Texture & Health unit, emphasized the center’s role in shaping the future of food: “The future of food is not just a vision, it’s a reality we’re creating with our customers. Our commitment to innovation and sustainability is unparalleled.”
Local leaders, including Wouter Kolff, King’s Commissioner for South Holland, praised the investment as a catalyst for regional economic growth and a magnet for global talent.
The center is expected to strengthen the Netherlands’ position as a hub for food and biotech innovation.
With this launch, dsm-firmenich reaffirms its commitment to leading the global diet transformation, developing delicious, nutritious, and sustainable food solutions that meet the evolving needs of consumers worldwide.
