DSM-Firmenich gets EU authorization renewal for Hy-D in ruminants 

NETHERLANDS – dsm-firmenich has attained renewal of European Union authorization for 25OHD3, derived from Saccharomyces cerevisiae CBS 146008, for use in poultry and pigs. 

Moreover, the company has received an extension for its application in ruminants, following the submission of its Hy-D scientific dossier to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).

25OHD3, known as Hy-D, represents the primary circulating form of vitamin D3 in both humans and animals. Sufficient levels of this vitamin are correlated with enhanced animal health and performance. 

Emrah Mazi, head of product management special nutrients at dsm-firmenich Animal Nutrition & Health, expressed excitement regarding the EU authorization for Hy-D in ruminants and the renewal for its use in poultry and pigs. 

Mazi emphasized the potential impact of this approval in promoting animal well-being, productivity, and sustainability.

The latest EU authorization for ruminants enables farmers to optimize animal lifetime performance, fostering more sustainable farming practices. Hy-D’s role in enhancing intestinal calcium/phosphorus (Ca/P) absorption is particularly crucial during the transition period to prevent complications. 

Moreover, Hy-D facilitates higher Ca/P retention throughout lactation, ensuring stronger females for subsequent calving and promoting increased milk yield.

For swine and poultry, Hy-D offers substantial benefits, including improved bone strength, enhanced meat and egg yield, and overall quality enhancement. 

Additionally, Hy-D strengthens immune capacity, reducing the risk of infectious diseases and metabolic disorders, thereby minimizing the need for medications and enhancing animal resilience.

EU feed additives undergo a rigorous review by EU authorities every ten years to ensure their safety and efficacy in the feed and food chain. 

DSM-Firmenich has diligently updated scientific information to support the renewal of 25OHD3 registration in animal nutrition for poultry, swine, and ruminants, facilitating more efficient and sustainable farming practices.

In addition to this achievement, DSM-Firmenich, in collaboration with partner Novonesis, recently received EU regulatory approval for their poultry feed protease, ProAct 360. 

This approval enables the availability of ProAct 360 to feed and poultry producers for use in all fattening poultry and chickens reared for laying and breeding.

Furthermore, DSM-Firmenich is piloting a poultry farming data platform with agricultural cooperative Agrifirm, aiming to drive more responsible and transparent production practices in the poultry industry.
