The facility is set to begin operations in the second quarter of 2026.
MEXICO – Bühler has officially broken ground on a new manufacturing facility in Torreón, Mexico, aimed at supporting the manufacturing needs of its Grains & Food business.
The new factory will be part of Bühler’s extensive global network, which includes over 30 manufacturing locations across all continents.
“This new facility is crucial to our commitment to being closer to our customers. By being present where our customers are located, we can serve them much more efficiently,” said Johannes Wick, CEO of Bühler’s Grains & Food segment.
Additionally, the company has 12 sales and service offices in the U.S. and Mexico to further assist its customers in the region.
“After nearly three years of planning, this facility will expand our manufacturing footprint and support our efforts to reduce our Scope 1 and 2 emissions when delivering our solutions. It also contributes to our goal of building more robust supply chains to guard against market fluctuations,” stated Holger Feldhege, COO at Bühler.
In the first of three planned stages, the facility will be equipped for sheet metal work, equipment assembly, and painting.
The selection process for the site involved evaluating nine cities based on seven criteria and over 50 qualitative and quantitative factors, including logistical connectivity, economic growth, and regional sustainability measures.
This comprehensive evaluation led to the choice of Torreón in the Mexican state of Coahuila.
“Torreón is exceptionally well positioned for our purposes,” “It allows us to tap into a skilled and educated workforce while providing excellent infrastructure and support from the local government,” noted Regis Esteves, head of manufacturing for the Americas at Bühler.
The first phase of the new factory represents an investment of $24 million and is expected to create approximately 200 jobs in the area. Subsequent phases will focus on enhancing the company’s manufacturing flexibility.
“This new factory is a significant addition to the region. It demonstrates our commitment to the Americas and to our customers here. We will be better equipped to help them achieve sustainable growth by saving time, being more agile in our manufacturing operations, and providing Bühler’s renowned Swiss quality closer to their doorstep,” stated Andy Sharpe, President and CEO of Bühler North America.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place at the selected site in Parque Industrial Amistad Laguna, an industrial park located between Torreón and Matamoros.
