Brenntag unveils new Life Sciences Innovation & Application Center in China 

The new center will serve as a collaborative innovation platform where Brenntag‘s technical teams work alongside ingredient suppliers and brand customers to translate ingredient knowledge into practical formulations and finished product concepts.

CHINA – Brenntag, the global market leader in chemicals and ingredients distribution, has opened its new Life Sciences Innovation & Application Center in Shanghai, strengthening its commitment to supporting customers and suppliers in China and Hong Kong with advanced technical capabilities and closer access to application expertise.

The facility expands capabilities in Food & Nutrition applications, fostering collaborative innovation through formulation development, application testing, and concept creation.

For Food & Nutrition, the center supports formulation and sensory tasting for ready-to-drink beverages, dairy, bakery, confectionery, and savory items, targeting trends like sports nutrition, children’s health, and healthy aging.

Through formulation development and tasting evaluations, Brenntag helps customers develop innovative product concepts that respond to changing consumer preferences and emerging health and wellness trends.

Kenneth Keh, Regional President Nutrition APAC, Brenntag Specialties, said, “With our new Life Sciences Innovation and Application Center in Shanghai, we are strengthening our ability to support innovation in food and nutrition applications. The facility enables us to develop new concepts in areas such as sports nutrition, children’s health, and healthy ageing, helping translate ingredient expertise into market-ready solutions.”

The center also supports the development of Beauty & Care formulations for a wide range of personal care and home care products.

Equipped with formulation and testing capabilities, the facility enables activities such as emulsion structure analysis, surfactant foam performance evaluation, hair combing force testing, skin analysis, and laundry performance testing, while a laboratory-scale mixing system supports small-batch production trials and process validation for formulation optimization.

Francois Bleger, Global President Beauty & Care and President Brenntag Specialties APAC, highlighted how it accelerates tailored formulations amid evolving consumer trends in personal and home care products.

Liu Hua, President of Brenntag Specialties China and Hong Kong, stated the center enables closer partnerships, translating ingredient knowledge into market-ready solutions for the Life Sciences portfolio.

This Shanghai hub underscores Brenntag’s APAC growth strategy, building on its Specialties division’s focus on high-value services amid China’s booming life sciences market.

By providing localized research & development, it helps partners respond swiftly to regional demands, enhancing supply chain collaboration and product differentiation.

The opening aligns with Brenntag’s recent financial resilience and mergers and acquisitions activity, positioning it for sustained expansion in high-growth areas.
