Bartlett opens Monterrey grain terminal, receives first unit train as demand climbs in Mexico

The facility enhances Bartlett’s existing presence in Mexico, which includes a grain facility in San Luis Potosí and a milling operation in Cuautitlán Izcalli, Estado de México.

MEXICO – Bartlett, a Savage Company, has celebrated the grand opening of its advanced grain distribution facility in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico, on July 9, 2025, marking a significant milestone in its expansion within the Mexican agribusiness market.

The facility, located at Carretera Cadereyta – Dr. Gonzalez s/n, Parque Industrial Global Park, Pesquería, Nuevo León, welcomed its first unit train, signaling the start of operations aimed at serving the region’s livestock and flour milling industries.

The Monterrey facility is designed to serve livestock and flour-milling customers in northern Mexico with a variety of grain and grain products, including yellow corn, white corn, wheat, soymeal, and distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS).

According to the company’s announcement, the terminal is designed to unload a shuttle in about 14 hours and turn trucks in under 30 minutes, timings aimed at improving supply reliability for feed mills, poultry and swine integrators, and millers clustered around Monterrey.

With a team of 25 dedicated professionals, the operation is equipped to meet the growing demand for high-quality grain products in Mexico, a country where Bartlett is already a leading exporter of U.S. grain.

Union Pacific, represented by Kenny Rocker, who cut the ribbon, congratulated Bartlett on the first unit train to the new Graneleras Bartlett Monterrey facility and highlighted Bartlett’s role as a leading U.S. exporter of grain to Mexico. That public endorsement reflects the line-haul connection from origins in the U.S. grain belt into northern Mexico via gateways such as Eagle Pass, Texas, where UP interchanges with Mexico’s networks.

Bartlett, founded in 1907 and part of Savage Enterprises since 2018, has a long-standing reputation for expertise in grain merchandising, storage, transportation, and processing. The company’s recent investments, such as a US$375 million soybean crushing plant in Cherryvale, Kansas, opened in September 2024, reflect its commitment to expanding capacity to serve both food and renewable fuel markets.

In addition, recently, the company completed the acquisition of Ceres Global Ag Corp. in a transaction valued at approximately US$140.19 million, marking a significant step in its strategy to strengthen its agribusiness operations across North America.

The Monterrey facility further solidifies Bartlett’s role in supporting Mexico’s agricultural sector by providing a reliable source of grain products and streamlining distribution for local producers and agribusinesses.
