Bakery de France begins Maryland plant expansion

The expansion will grow the Frederick workforce to more than 200 employees by 2027.

USA – Bakery de France has officially broken ground on a significant US$87 million expansion of its production facility in Frederick, Maryland, marking a major milestone in the company’s growth strategy in North America.

The expansion will nearly double the size of the existing bakery from 110,000 to 286,000 square feet, dramatically increasing production capacity while creating 80 new full-time jobs.

This will grow the Frederick workforce to more than 200 employees by 2027.

The new 176,000-square-foot facility addition reflects Bakery de France’s continued commitment to serving the U.S. market with premium artisan bread products that use carefully sourced ingredients, its signature levain, and traditional European long-fermentation techniques.

The expansion will enable the bakery to scale production of breads, rolls, and baguettes while maintaining the authentic heritage and quality that defines the brand.

Bakery de France is a family-owned artisan bakery with more than 30 years of history in the U.S. marketplace.

Its longstanding reputation for handcrafting artisanal bakery products has been a foundation for growth, and the expanded facility now enables the company to meet increasing consumer demand for high-quality bakery goods.

This growth initiative comes shortly after Bakery de France entered a joint venture with La Lorraine Bakery Group, a Belgian family-owned milling and baking company.

The partnership aims to accelerate growth plans and expand the footprint of both companies in North America.

Executives from both organizations, along with elected officials and economic development representatives from the city, county, and state, attended the groundbreaking ceremony in Frederick.

The Maryland expansion is expected to bring economic benefits to the local community beyond job creation, including supporting a thriving manufacturing sector and encouraging additional commercial activity.

The strategic location in Frederick enables efficient distribution while providing a strong workforce base committed to artisanal craftsmanship.

City of Frederick officials expressed enthusiasm about the project, highlighting Bakery de France’s critical role in the region’s manufacturing landscape and welcoming the company’s commitment to long-term investment.

The new plant expansion signals the company’s ambition to maintain leadership in the artisan bakery segment while growing sustainably.

Leveraging traditional European methods and premium ingredients combined with modern production technologies, Bakery de France is well-positioned to meet evolving consumer tastes and expanded retail demands.

This expansion underscores the company’s ongoing dedication to quality, authenticity, and community engagement in the competitive North American bakery market.
