ADM accelerates specialty ingredients strategy with US$16M naturally derived color expansion and EVERY protein partnership

The investment strengthens ADM‘s position as a leading supplier of natural ingredient solutions for the food and beverage industry while enhancing its ability to support customers seeking innovative, sustainable formulations.

USA – Archer-Daniels-Midland Company (ADM) has announced dual capital investments and commercial partnerships in North America, reinforcing its strategic expansion into high-value specialty food ingredients..

The company is committing more than US$16 million to expand its naturally derived color manufacturing facility in Boone County, Kentucky, while simultaneously partnering with food-technology pioneer The EVERY Company to scale US commercial production of OvoPro™ precision-fermented egg white protein at its Clinton, Iowa plant.

The US$16 million investment in Boone County will add 14,000 square feet of state-of-the-art manufacturing space by early 2027, substantially boosting capacity for liquid and dry-blended formulations within ADM’s Colors From Nature™ portfolio.

Building on a recent US$26 million expansion at ADM’s neighboring Erlanger facility, the project positions Northern Kentucky as a primary regional hub for natural color solutions.

The expansion targets an estimated US$1 billion North American market opportunity driven by food and beverage manufacturers replacing synthetic dyes with natural colorants in response to evolving regulatory scrutiny from the US Food and Drug Administration and rising consumer demand for clean-label products.

Concurrently, ADM’s manufacturing agreement with San Francisco-based The EVERY Company establishes commercial-scale US production of OvoPro™, a bio-based egg white protein produced via precision fermentation.

The partnership will leverage ADM’s cutting-edge precision fermentation production capabilities and EVERY’s expertise in crafting proteins for purpose using their patented process.

Manufactured at ADM’s Clinton facility, OvoPro™ acts as a functional drop-in replacement for traditional egg whites, delivering essential binding, gelling, and whipping performance alongside a complete protein quality score (PDCAAS 1.0) without fat or cholesterol.

Utilizing ADM’s large-scale precision fermentation infrastructure is expected to increase global OvoPro™ supply fivefold by late 2027, providing food formulators with cost stability and supply chain security amid traditional egg market volatility.

Corporate executives emphasized that both initiatives reflect ADM’s commitment to driving innovation across the bioeconomy and supporting CPG client reformulation priorities.

Calvin McEvoy, ADM’s President of Global Flavors, highlighted that natural colors have become a foundational component of modern product redesigns.

Meanwhile, Kris Lutt, ADM Vice President for Innovation and Growth, noted that integrating precision fermentation into existing agricultural processing networks complements traditional protein sources while expanding the resilient, high-quality ingredient choices available to food manufacturers worldwide.

Last November, Every Company successfully raised US$55 million in a Series D funding round to dramatically expand the production and commercialization of its precision-fermented egg proteins.

ADM has framed the partnership as part of its broader push into alternative protein and nutrition products, using its existing Clinton, Iowa fermentation infrastructure to scale a partner ingredient rather than building new capacity from scratch.

The collaboration follows growing industry attention on precision fermentation as a route to addressing US egg supply constraints and elevated egg prices in recent years.
