Vikram Mills commissions 100 TPD rice processing plant in India
The new facility is designed to bolster the company’s presence in the National Capital Region (NCR) by integrating its traditional “flour muscle” with modern rice processing capabilities.
INDIA – Vikram Mills, a long-established player in the premium wheat flour segment, has commissioned a new 100-tonnes-per-day (TPD) rice to rice processing plant at its headquarters in the Lawrence Road Industrial Area, Delhi.
The investment marks a strategic shift for the company as it transitions from a wheat-focused miller to a broader multi-commodity agro-processor serving the National Capital Region (NCR).
The Delhi-based facility integrates rice processing into the company’s existing flour operations, creating a consolidated production and distribution hub within the capital.
By situating the plant at its headquarters, Vikram Mills aims to reduce handling time, optimise inventory management and offer institutional buyers and FMCG retailers a single sourcing point for wheat flour and rice.
Speaking on the launch, Shubham Garg, Director of Vikram Roller Flour Mills Limited, said that the addition of the 100-tonne rice-to-rice plant allows the company to extend its established wheat processing capabilities into rice while strengthening supply and logistics across NCR.
“Our focus remains on building capacity in line with long-term demand,” he said.
The co-location of wheat and rice operations enables Vikram Mills to leverage its established flour distribution network.
The company has traditionally supplied premium wheat flour to bakeries, institutional buyers and retail brands. With rice now added to its portfolio, customers can consolidate procurement, potentially lowering logistics costs and improving supply reliability.
Operationally, a “rice to rice” plant focuses on processing already milled rice through grading, polishing, sorting and packaging. This approach allows faster throughput and reduced capital intensity compared to fully integrated paddy milling operations.
Building on Rohtak’s foundation
The commissioning of the Delhi plant follows the company’s earlier investment in a 100 TPD paddy to rice facility in Kiloi, Rohtak, commissioned last year.
That unit established backward integration capabilities in paddy procurement, drying, milling and grading.
The Rohtak plant effectively strengthened raw material sourcing and primary processing, creating a supply base that now feeds into the Delhi operation for final grading, polishing and distribution.
Haryana remains one of India’s major rice-producing states, contributing significantly to the country’s basmati and non-basmati output.
According to India’s Ministry of Agriculture, the country’s total rice production has consistently exceeded 130 million metric tonnes in recent seasons, reinforcing India’s position as the world’s largest rice exporter. This production scale supports millers expanding into both domestic and export-oriented value chains.
