Burcon NutraScience begins commercial sales of Puratein® C canola protein isolate

Puratein® C is extracted from non-GMO, North American-grown canola seeds using Burcon’s patented solvent-free process, which upcycles oilseed byproducts into high-value protein ingredients.

CANADA – Burcon NutraScience, a global technology leader in plant-based protein innovation, has officially begun commercial sales of Puratein® C, its high-purity canola protein isolate, marking a major milestone in sustainable food ingredient development.

This launch follows successful production at the company’s Galesburg facility and represents Burcon’s strategic push to scale its proprietary protein technologies into mainstream food and beverage markets.

Puratein® C is extracted from non-GMO, North American-grown canola seeds using Burcon’s patented solvent-free process, which upcycles oilseed byproducts into high-value protein ingredients.

The result is a 90%+ purity isolate with exceptional nutritional, functional, and flavor properties, including a Protein Digestibility-Corrected Amino Acid Score (PDCAAS score of 1.0, indicating a complete amino acid profile.

The ingredient boasts high solubility, a light cream color, and a mild flavor, making it ideal for a wide range of applications, including dairy alternatives, ready-to-drink beverages, and meat analogues, as well as baked goods, sauces, and nutraceuticals.

Its versatility positions Puratein® C as a compelling alternative to traditional animal and plant proteins, especially in clean-label and high-performance formulations.

“With three proteins now successfully produced at commercial scale, Burcon has proven both its technology platform and execution capability,” said Kip Underwood, chief executive officer.

“This milestone demonstrates that we can reliably scale innovation into production, creating multiple new revenue streams and expanding our market opportunity.”

He emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainability and its role in addressing global demand for nutritious, environmentally friendly protein sources.

Puratein® C joins Burcon’s expanding portfolio of plant-based proteins, which includes Peazazz® (pea protein isolate) and FavaPro® (fava bean protein isolate).

With three proteins now produced on a commercial scale, Burcon is reinforcing its position as a technology-driven supplier in the fast-growing plant protein sector.

The launch comes amid rising consumer demand for clean-label, nutritionally complete, and sustainable ingredients, as food manufacturers seek alternatives to soy, dairy, and other conventional proteins.

Burcon’s innovation offers formulators a new tool to meet these evolving preferences while supporting environmental goals.

With Puratein® C now available for delivery, Burcon NutraScience is well positioned to reshape the protein landscape, bringing canola from the field to the forefront of functional nutrition.
