MBC Companies expands frozen pizza capabilities with acquisition of Alpha Foods

These strategic additions position MBC as a one-stop solution for frozen meals across all day parts, from breakfast to lunch and late-night snacking.

USA – MBC Companies, a diversified frozen foods company, has announced the acquisition of Alpha Foods, a family-owned frozen pizza manufacturer based in Waller, Texas, marking a major expansion of its frozen food portfolio and solidifying its position as a national leader in frozen pizza production.

The deal enhances MBC’s manufacturing footprint, accelerates product innovation, and strengthens its reach across foodservice and retail channels.

Founded in 1984 by Greek immigrants George and Athena Sarandos, Alpha Foods evolved from a regional foodservice distributor into a respected producer of frozen pizzas and pizza components, serving K-12 schools, national grocery chains, and CPG brands across the U.S.

The acquisition adds Alpha’s 115,000-square-foot facility to MBC’s existing network, expanding its total production space to over 550,000 square feet across four locations.

This move marks MBC’s second major investment in the pizza category in 2025, following its January acquisition of Nardone Brothers Baking.

Together, these strategic additions position MBC as a one-stop solution for frozen meals across all day parts, from breakfast to lunch and late-night snacking.

Jeff Ahlers, CEO of MBC Companies, highlighted the cultural and operational alignment between the two firms: “Alpha and MBC share so much in common, from our strong family-focused culture to our commitment to quality, safety, and customer service. Together, we will be well-positioned to deliver even greater value to our customers and create new opportunities for our employees.”

MBC is backed by Entrepreneurial Equity Partners (e2p), a Chicago-based private equity firm focused on food, beverage, and pet industries.

Other e2p portfolio brands include Furlani Foods, Roskam Foods, and Sara Lee Frozen Bakery.

Athena Sarandos, co-founder of Alpha Foods, expressed confidence in the partnership: “While many firms wanted to buy our company, the best path forward was to combine with a company that shares our values, understands our business, and protects what our people have built.”

With this acquisition, MBC Companies is not only expanding its pizza capabilities but also building a robust, values-driven platform for frozen food innovation, distribution, and growth across the U.S. market.
