Lower oilseed production and rising import reliance are raising fresh concerns about India’s food supply and prices.
The agreement will increase soybean oil shipments from China to India while opening the Chinese market to more Indian mustard and soybean meal exports.
The 22 acre site will produce concentrates for PepsiCo’s product portfolio and is part of a larger Rs 5,700 crore (US$598.67M) investment pipeline the company has committed to India through 2030.
India’s soybean imports rose sharply in May as high domestic prices pushed buyers to source non-GM supplies from African countries, creating new opportunities for exporters across the continent.
The landmark regulation, issued under the Food Safety and Standards (Vegan Foods) Amendment Regulations, is legally scheduled to take effect nationwide on July 1, 2027.
