The hub will serve as a central engine for digital solutions that enable manufacturers to respond swiftly to evolving consumer trends, streamline product development, and enhance supply chain resilience.

SPAIN – Symrise AG, a major German chemicals company and global producer of flavors, fragrances, cosmetic ingredients, and aroma chemicals, has officially inaugurated its first global Data and AI Hub in Barcelona, Spain, marking a strategic leap in its digital transformation journey.
The initiative, dubbed the “#BCN Hub,” is designed to supercharge innovation across the food, beverage, nutrition, and pet food sectors by harnessing advanced data analytics and artificial intelligence.
The hub will serve as a central engine for digital solutions that enable manufacturers to respond swiftly to evolving consumer trends, streamline product development, and enhance supply chain resilience.
According to Eliza Millet, Chief Digital & Information Officer at Symrise, “The #BCN Hub will become an in-house center for innovation, collaboration, and transformation,” enabling faster product cycles and more innovative strategic planning.
Barcelona was chosen for its rich talent pool, proximity to leading academic institutions, and vibrant tech ecosystem.
Symrise is actively collaborating with the Autonomous University of Barcelona and global tech players like Microsoft to tap into the city’s innovation infrastructure.
The hub’s operations span six core business areas: finance, R&D, procurement, supply chain, consumer insights, and sustainability.
This integrated approach aims to deliver high-quality, personalized, and sustainable products more efficiently and effectively.
The company sees digitalization not just as a tool for optimization, but as a catalyst for creative problem-solving and long-term value creation.
To build internal capabilities, Symrise has launched a 12-month postgraduate program, onboarding 25 young professionals from fields such as computer science, physics, and bioinformatics.
These participants will receive structured training and mentorship from digital transformation experts, gaining hands-on experience in real-world projects.
Nick Russel, Chief Transformation Officer, emphasized the broader vision: “Digitalization goes beyond advancing projects; it opens new ways to approach challenges creatively and deliver value to our customers.”
Looking ahead, Symrise plans to expand its digital footprint globally, leveraging the Barcelona hub as a blueprint for future innovation centers.
The company is committed to using AI and data-driven insights to help F&B manufacturers navigate dynamic markets, anticipate consumer behavior, and deliver trend-responsive products at scale.
With the #BCN Hub, Symrise positions itself at the forefront of digital innovation in the food and beverage industry, where data meets flavor, and algorithms help shape tomorrow’s tastes.
