SHINE Bridge Global to launch cassava processing hub in Nigeria

This ambitious initiative aims to leverage Nigeria’s status as the world’s largest cassava producer to create value-added products for both the food service and retail industries.

NIGERIA – U.S.-based food science and agribusiness firm SHINE Bridge Global (SBG) is making a strategic entry into Nigeria’s agro-processing sector with the establishment of a cassava-focused food hub at the Shagamu-Iperi Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone (SAPZ) in Ogun State.

The move is part of the company’s broader mission to transform indigenous African crops into globally competitive food products.

This ambitious initiative aims to leverage Nigeria’s status as the world’s largest cassava producer to create value-added products for both the food service and retail industries.

Announced by Chairman Dr. Tony Bello, the facility will serve as a production base for three cassava-based premixes under the Rooti brand: RootiFufu, an instant fufu with an amala-style texture; RootiBake, a baking mix for breads and pastries; and RootiSnacks, formulated for chips, crackers, and convenience foods.

These products are designed to meet the evolving needs of Nigeria’s foodservice and retail sectors, offering affordable, culturally relevant, and nutritionally enhanced alternatives to wheat-based staples.

The company plans to test-launch the Rooti line locally by Christmas 2025.

By localizing operations within the SAPZ ecosystem, SHINE Bridge Global aims to reduce logistics and blending costs, while fostering deeper partnerships with Nigerian agribusinesses.

The hub will also support multi-product processing of cassava, soybeans, and specialty foods, enabling scalable production for both domestic and export markets.

Dr. Bello emphasized the company’s commitment to inclusive growth: “By investing directly in Nigeria’s SAPZ ecosystem, we are not only saving costs but also creating long-term value for communities, investors, and the cassava value chain.”

The company will collaborate with local partners, including Value Ingredients Limited, Graceco, and Spectra Ingredients, for packaging and distribution.

The initiative aligns with Nigeria’s push to industrialize agriculture and reduce post-harvest losses through value-added processing.

With cassava cultivated by millions of smallholder farmers across the country, SHINE Bridge Global’s entry is expected to stimulate rural economies, create jobs, and enhance food security.

As global demand for gluten-free and plant-based foods rises, Nigeria’s cassava sector is gaining renewed attention.

SHINE Bridge Global’s investment signals a new era of innovation, where indigenous crops are reimagined for modern markets.
