Plant-Ex Ingredients doubles UK production capacity to fuel international growth

The investment marks one of the company’s largest capacity upgrades in recent years and underscores its commitment to supporting innovation and sustainable growth in natural ingredient solutions.

UK – Plant-Ex Ingredients, a UK producer of natural plant-derived flavours, colours, and extracts, has successfully doubled its domestic manufacturing footprint with the launch of a new production facility in Bristol, as part of a wider £4 million (US$5.3M) infrastructure investment programme that began in 2025.

The significant footprint expansion comes on the heels of a major £9 million (US$12M) minority investment from BGF (British Growth Fund) announced in September 2024, which was secured to aggressively drive the company’s international growth and solidify its supply chain resilience across the United Kingdom and global markets.

The newly established Bristol site effectively doubles the output capacity of Plant-Ex’s previous UK operations.

Equipped with advanced processing machinery, the facility is designed to meet the skyrocketing demand for clean-label, natural food colors, extracts, and customized flavorings.

Notably, Plant-Ex stands out as one of only two flavor houses in the UK to possess in-house spray-drying capabilities, meaning the company can seamlessly scale production of its specialized powdered ingredients alongside its traditional liquid lines without relying on external processors.

Strategically situated near primary transportation corridors in the South-West of England, the Bristol site optimizes logistics for both domestic distribution and international shipping.

Founder and CEO Giles Drewett framed the investment as a response to rising demand for natural, sustainable ingredient solutions, noting that Plant‑Ex’s product range now reaches more than 50 countries and that the company is targeting further international growth.

Management said the UK capacity increase supports a revenue trajectory approaching £40 million (US$5.3M) for 2026 and underpins near‑term plans including a new factory in Turkey (planned July 2026), an expansion in Poland (August 2026), and exploratory activity in the United States in 2027.

The business now employs over 160 staff and expects the additional UK capacity to accelerate order fulfilment and product development timelines for customers in bakery, confectionery, beverages, and snacks.

Looking ahead, the boosted UK operations will work in tandem with the brand’s ongoing continental expansion. Plant-Ex is currently integrating its recent European acquisitions to construct a unified innovation and production hub in Poland, set to launch later this year.

By doubling its core UK capacity while concurrently expanding its infrastructure overseas, the Bristol-based specialist is positioning itself as a highly agile, tech-forward partner capable of delivering consistent, high-quality ingredient solutions to food manufacturers worldwide.
