Pladis launches accelerator programme for food tech start-ups

Pladis said the initiative will aid start-ups focused on food technology, health and sustainability.

UK – Pladis, a UK-based snacks manufacturer and owner of the McVitie’s biscuit brand, has launched an accelerator program aimed at supporting early-stage companies both locally and internationally.

This initiative seeks to address consumer trends, such as the ageing global population and the increasing demand for sustainable food sourcing.

Jennifer Moss, Pladis’ Chief Research and Development Officer, stated that the program aims to bring about transformative change in these targeted sectors.

Founded in 2016 and owned by the Turkish conglomerate Yildiz Holding, Pladis intends to leverage its experience in entrepreneurship and growth to mentor and assist start-ups.

Participants in the program will receive guidance from the company’s senior leadership team on various topics, including global expansion, product design, branding, and commercializing innovative ideas.

“We are excited to launch the Accelerator Programme as part of our continued to drive transformative change within food tech, health and sustainability. We are a young company ourselves and our leadership team has experience in scaling a global business and bringing to market innovative products. Start-ups in the program will have opportunities to pilot projects or co-develop solutions with Pladis, providing them with real-world validation and market exposure, “ said Moss.

The accelerator program focuses on innovations in three main areas. The first area is on personalized nutrition. Catering to consumers aged 50 and above, as well as younger generations, this area emphasizes functional and fortified snacks tailored to meet specific dietary needs.

The second area is on advancing functional foods. This includes innovations such as functional snacks, nutraceuticals, and AI-driven product development aimed at enhancing beauty, wellness, and overall well-being.

The third area is on future ingredients. This area explores possibilities like precision fermentation, upcycled ingredients, and plant-based products.

Applications for the accelerator program will open on March 18 and close on May 31, with final selections to be announced by June 30.

Pladis is also proud to announce its sponsorship of the prestigious FoodTech500, further highlighting its commitment to fostering innovation within the food technology ecosystem.
