GHANA – Olam Agri’s Grains Business, a leading manufacturer of wheat flour in Ghana and operator of a state-of-the-art wheat mill in Tema, has launched the “Big Baker” project, an initiative that aims to equip underprivileged children in Accra with essential baking skills and mentorship.
In partnership with Ennoble Africa Foundation, a non-governmental organization specializing in vocational training for orphans, the success of the project would enable the underprivileged children, enabling them to build entrepreneurial capabilities and practical expertise for future success.
To date, the project has trained over 250 children, providing them with the tools needed to foster self-sufficiency and economic empowerment.
Soumya Saxena, Business Head for Olam Agri’s Grains Business in Ghana, emphasized the transformative power of education and skills development in breaking the cycle of poverty:
“By providing opportunities for these children to learn valuable skills, we hope to inspire them to pursue their dreams and contribute positively to their communities.”
Dulcie Delali Attipoe, Team Lead for Ennoble Africa Foundation, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the project’s role in laying a strong foundation for the children’s future.
Beyond the “Big Baker” initiative, Olam Agri has launched other impactful programs such as the nationwide “My Healthy Baker” campaign, which provided health screenings for over 6,000 bakers, and the Grains Hygiene Standard Management (GHSM) program, aimed at enhancing food safety and hygiene standards in the industry.
