Olam Agri launches Ghana’s first locally made pasta brand

First Choice Premium Spaghetti enters the market as local production gains pace in Ghana.

GHANA – Olam Agri has launched First Choice Premium Spaghetti, the first pasta brand produced fully in Ghana, marking a key step in the country’s push to grow local food production.

The company introduced the product at a trade event held in Accra, where it brought together distributors, partners, and food industry leaders. The pasta comes from Olam Agri’s new factory in Kpone, which handles production, packaging, and distribution within the country.

Company officials said the brand focuses on everyday meals in Ghanaian homes, especially for mothers who balance cost, quality, and convenience. They added that local production will help cut reliance on imported pasta while improving access to affordable options.

The product carries the message “3y3 Fine,” which the company says reflects its promise to deliver consistent quality.

The event also introduced media personality Naa Ashorkor Mensah-Doku as the brand ambassador. Her appearance drew strong reactions from the audience, with many linking her public image to family life and trust.

Speaking at the launch, she said, “Every Ghanaian mother wants to put a good meal on the table without second-guessing. That is exactly what this brand stands for.”

Olam Agri confirmed that First Choice Premium Spaghetti is now available in major retail outlets across the country, with consumer campaigns already underway.

Backed by new production plant

The launch follows closely after the company commissioned a pasta production plant worth US$40 million in Kpone earlier in March. The facility supports a wide range of products, including spaghetti and macaroni, and connects with Olam Agri’s wheat milling operations.

Officials say the plant can produce up to 40,000 tonnes of pasta each year, which could meet a large share of local demand once it reaches full capacity.

Government data shows Ghana imported about US$140 million worth of pasta between 2021 and 2024, making it one of the largest importers in Africa. Leaders in the trade sector believe local production can reduce this figure over time while creating jobs and supporting industry growth.

Olam Agri says the launch of First Choice marks the start of a broader plan to expand its food production base in West Africa.
