The product is part of a global rollout across more than 80 markets, designed to connect Oreo with younger consumers and BTS’s global ARMY through culturally rooted storytelling and collectable design elements.

SOUTH AFRICA – Mondelēz International has officially launched its highly anticipated, limited-edition Oreo and BTS cookie collaboration across major retail channels nationwide.
The rollout incorporates South Africa into a massive global marketing framework spanning more than 80 countries, fusing the world’s best-selling cookie brand with the immense cultural reach of the South Korean K-pop septet.
The core product innovation centres on an entirely new flavour profile developed with direct creative input from the band members.
Departing from the classic chocolate aesthetic, the limited-edition treat pairs Oreo’s first-ever purple wafer cookies, a visual nod to the signature color associated with the group’s global “ARMY” fanbase, with a specialized, dual-layer brown sugar pancake-flavored crème filling.
This flavour profile is directly inspired by hotteok, a popular, sweet syrup-filled pancake sold throughout traditional South Korean street food markets, which holds nostalgic childhood significance for the musical artists.
To mark the group’s 13th anniversary, the physical biscuits feature 13 unique, custom-molded embossments designed by the band members themselves.
These collectible patterns swap out the traditional Oreo stamp for the names of individual members, the iconic BTS light stick silhouette, and interlocking graphics that form a hidden message for fans who collect and arrange the various designs.
The retail packaging also mirrors this cultural theme, utilizing vibrant graphic artwork influenced by the bustling atmosphere of Seoul’s night markets.
Marli Visagie, the Biscuits Category Lead for Mondelēz South Africa, emphasized that the collaboration represents a strategic move to secure market relevance among younger, highly connected demographics.
Rather than relying on standard celebrity endorsements, the campaign utilizes heavy digital activation to drive deep brand engagement beyond the physical point of sale.
South African consumers can scan on-pack QR codes to access a dedicated portal, where they can win exclusive co-branded merchandise and help create a massive digital “love letter” to the band.
The limited-edition stock has already begun arriving on the shelves of leading regional supermarkets, including Pick n Pay, Shoprite, and Checkers, and will remain available only while seasonal inventories last.
