Global Baking Council launches to unify industry advocacy
The council will provide a platform for structured dialogue, coordinated engagement, and timely insights on regulatory, legislative, and consumer trends affecting industrial baking worldwide.
USA – The American Bakers Association (ABA) and the International Association of Plant Bakers (AIBI) have announced the launch of a new Global Baking Council to connect and strengthen commercial‑baking trade associations worldwide.
The initiative is designed to create a structured platform where national and regional baking associations can share insights, coordinate responses to regulatory and legislative changes, and better align with evolving global consumer trends.
The Global Baking Council will bring together participating associations from multiple markets to foster structured dialogue, coordinated advocacy, and rapid information exchange on issues such as food safety regulations, labeling rules, energy and carbon policies, and shifting consumer expectations around clean labels and sustainability.
Member associations will receive regular issue‑focused briefings, access to best practices from peer organizations, and opportunities to engage with international public bodies that shape the framework for the baking sector.
ABA President and CEO Eric Dell described the council as a tool to help baking associations “strengthen their global view and respond more effectively to the challenges and opportunities shaping the industry,” including trade policy and supply‑chain disruptions, as well as innovation in ingredients and processes.

“By fostering open communication and information sharing, we can break down barriers to understanding how changing regulatory and consumer landscapes are affecting the industry globally and help support our respective member companies.”
AIBI Secretary General Didier Jans emphasized that commercial baking operates in an increasingly interconnected environment, and that the council will amplify the collective voice of commercial bakers so they can jointly influence global standards and market conditions.

“Through this joint initiative with ABA and our international association partners, we are establishing a platform for sustained cooperation, shared expertise, and coordinated engagement. Together, we can amplify the collective voice of commercial bakers and strengthen our ability to respond to global challenges and opportunities.”
The inaugural meeting of the Global Baking Council, including a formal signing ceremony, is scheduled to take place at the AIBI Congress on May 28, 2026.
The 2026 AIBI Congress will be held at the Mouratoglou Hotel & Resort in the Sophia Antipolis technology park on the French Riviera, from May 27 to 29, under the theme “Where Tradition Meets Tomorrow.”
