General Mills remains confident in its ability to return to dollar growth after the initial phase of price investments.

USA – General Mills, Inc. has announced its fiscal 2026 first-quarter results, reporting mixed performance across key metrics while reaffirming its full-year financial outlook.
The Minneapolis-based food giant reported net sales of US$4.5 billion, a 7% decline year-over-year, primarily due to a 4-point headwind from recent divestitures and acquisitions.
Despite the dip in sales, the company recorded a significant boost in operating profit, which rose 108% to US$1.7 billion, largely due to a US$1.05 billion gain from the divestiture of its U.S. yogurt business.
However, adjusted operating profit fell 18% in constant currency to US$711 million, reflecting increased investments in brand innovation and pricing strategies.
Diluted earnings per share (EPS) surged 116% to US$2.22, while adjusted diluted EPS dropped 20% to US$0.86, also in constant currency.
Chairman and CEO Jeff Harmening emphasized the company’s strategic focus on restoring organic sales growth through enhanced consumer value, innovation, and marketing.
“We’re seeing the returns we expected on these investments, helping us grow or hold pound share in 8 of our top 10 U.S. categories,” said Harmening.
Key initiatives driving General Mills’ strategic momentum include the expansion of Blue Buffalo into the fresh pet food category, with products now actively shipping to customers, marking a significant step in the brand’s growth and diversification.
The company is also rolling out new advertising campaigns and in-store events aimed at boosting brand visibility and deepening consumer engagement across its portfolio.
Operational efficiency remains a priority through the continued execution of the Holistic Margin Management productivity program, which helps streamline costs and enhance profitability.
Additionally, General Mills is investing across its Remarkable Experience Framework, a comprehensive approach that integrates product innovation, packaging enhancements, brand communication, omnichannel execution, and consumer value, to deliver more compelling and consistent experiences to shoppers in an increasingly competitive market.
General Mills remains confident in its ability to return to dollar growth after the initial phase of price investments.
The company expects improved pound growth and favorable price/mix to drive momentum in the latter half of fiscal 2026.
The reaffirmed full-year guidance signals stability amid a dynamic market environment, with General Mills betting on disciplined execution and innovation to navigate inflationary pressures and shifting consumer preferences.
As the food industry continues to evolve, General Mills’ strategic recalibration, balancing cost management with brand reinvention, positions it to maintain competitiveness across retail, foodservice, and international markets.
