G3 marks decade of safety leadership with contribution to BeGrainSafe Program

The partnership focuses on improving safety outcomes for farmers, firefighters, and rural communities by strengthening emergency response to grain entrapment incidents.

CANADA – This May, G3 Canada Limited officially celebrated a decade of partnership with the Canadian Agricultural Safety Association (CASA) by announcing a renewed C$40,000 (US$29,179.80) contribution to the BeGrainSafe program.

This latest investment marks ten years of continuous support for grain safety, reinforcing G3’s position as a pillar of agricultural security and emergency preparedness across the Canadian Prairies and beyond.

Since 2016, the collaboration has been instrumental in addressing one of the most silent and deadly hazards in the farming industry: grain entrapment.

The BeGrainSafe program is a multi-faceted safety initiative designed to save lives through prevention education and specialized rescue training.

A cornerstone of this program is the mobile training trailer, a project G3 helped fund during its early stages.

This high-tech unit travels to rural communities to provide firefighters and first responders with hands-on experience in a controlled environment.

To date, the program has trained more than 800 firefighters and delivered over 30 sets of specialized grain rescue equipment to fire departments across Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, and Quebec.

G3’s Chief Executive Officer, Don Chapman, emphasized that the safety of the communities where G3 operates remains a fundamental priority.

“Reaching ten years with CASA reflects the strength of this partnership and the meaningful progress we have made together,” Chapman stated.

He noted that the continued investment is not just about equipment, but about ensuring that rural responders are equipped with the technical skills required to act when seconds matter most.

Sandra Miller, Executive Director of CASA, echoed this sentiment, highlighting that sponsors like G3 are vital in ensuring these life-saving resources remain accessible to fire departments that might otherwise lack the funding for specialized training.

The necessity of such a program is underscored by sobering statistics from the Canadian Agricultural Injury Reporting data, which recorded 27 fatalities due to asphyxiation from grain or soil on Canadian farms between 2011 and 2020.

Experts warn that grain entrapment can occur in the blink of an eye; once grain begins to flow, self-rescue is virtually impossible.

By focusing on both farmer prevention and first responder rescue capabilities, the BeGrainSafe program provides a dual-layer of protection.

As G3 continues its expansion into new markets, this decade-long commitment serves as a reminder that industrial growth and community safety must move forward in tandem to protect the heart of the Canadian agricultural sector.
