The recalled bags were found to possibly contain undeclared milk, which poses a risk to those with a milk allergy.

USA – The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has raised its recall of Frito-Lay’s Tostitos Cantina Traditional Yellow Corn Tortilla Chips to the highest risk level.
On March 26, the FDA announced that Frito-Lay issued a recall for 13-ounce bags of Tostitos Cantina Traditional Yellow Corn Tortilla Chips (with the universal product code 28400 52848) that were sold in 13 states and through e-commerce distributors as early as March 7.
The 13 states involved in the recall are Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.
The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the product may have inadvertently included nacho cheese tortilla chips, which contain undeclared milk.
This could potentially cause serious or life-threatening allergic reactions in individuals with an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk, according to a press release from the FDA.
The FDA has re-classified this recall as a Class I, indicating that exposure to or consumption of the product could result in serious adverse health consequences or death.
An FDA Class I recall is the most severe type of recall, because while recalls can happen for all kinds of reasons—from quality issues to mislabeled packaging—a Class I recall signals an imminent adverse risk to people’s health.
Fewer than 1,300 bags of the affected chips were sold in stores across the 13 states since they became available on March 7. These products were also available through online e-commerce distributors.
PepsiCo, the parent company of Frito-Lay, stated in its own press release that no allergic reactions related to the recalled chips have been reported. They also assured consumers that the chips are safe for those without milk allergies or sensitivities.
The affected bags are marked with a “Guaranteed Fresh” date of May 20, 2025, on the front. They also include one of the following manufacturing codes, with “XX” representing any number from 30 to 55:
– 47110650418 13:XX
– 471106505 85 13:XX
– 471106506 85 13:XX
– 471106507 85 13:XX
The FDA and PepsiCo are urging consumers who have a milk allergy or sensitivity not to consume the affected products and to dispose of them immediately. For more information, consumers can visit the Frito-Lay Contact Us page or call 1-800-352-4477.
