Finsbury Food Group launches first-ever Hello Kitty celebration cake

The Hello Kitty cake adds to Finsbury Food Group‘s broader strategy of expanding its licensed celebration offerings for major retailers and foodservice customers across the UK and Europe

UK – Finsbury Food Group has officially expanded its licensed celebration cake portfolio by launching its first-ever cake inspired by the iconic pop-culture character Hello Kitty.

Developed in an official partnership with Sanrio, the global lifestyle brand behind the character, the new product is rolling out exclusively across Tesco supermarket shelves nationwide.

The celebration cake introduces a striking, vibrant pink-coloured vanilla sponge to the UK grocery aisle, marking the very first time Finsbury Food Group’s innovative product development team has incorporated a colourful pink sponge into a character-licensed cake.

Designed to weigh 0.89kg and serve up to 16 people, the dessert is structured with layers of sweet raspberry jam and a smooth white filling.

The outside of the cake is finished with detailed piped frosting, colourful sprinkles around the sides, and a distinct edible topper showcasing the globally recognized Hello Kitty design.

The strategic launch aims to tap into the enduring commercial strength of character-led products within the broader UK retail sweet treats sector.

According to industry analysis, licensed celebration cakes continue to experience robust sales growth, driven primarily by family milestones, birthdays, and themed children’s events.

However, Finsbury Food Group is explicitly positioning this product to capture a multi-generational audience, capitalizing on both younger consumers discovering the character and nostalgic adult fans seeking familiar comfort foods.

Andrew Scott, Brand Manager at Finsbury Food Group, highlighted that the collaboration represents a deliberate push toward heightened creative expression within the supermarket bakery category.

Scott noted that, because Hello Kitty remains such an iconic asset, the design team aimed to create a visually distinctive product that would guarantee significant shelf appeal.

The company remains highly confident that the bright presentation and classic flavour profile will resonate powerfully with UK grocery shoppers seeking affordable luxury options for impulse or planned family celebrations.

Finsbury Food Group, which serves as a major supplier of bread, morning goods, and speciality cakes across the UK and European foodservice sectors, has recently expanded its portfolio with several high-profile entertainment partnerships.

The addition of the Sanrio license follows other major brand rollouts by the manufacturer, including its specialized sports and entertainment cupcake lines.

The Hello Kitty celebration cake is currently available across Tesco stores, as retailers look to strengthen exclusive-brand inventory to drive consumer foot traffic.
