ABA teams up with AIB to advance food safety resources for the baking industry

The new strategic collaboration will deliver food safety resources by developing a first-of-its-kind Bakery Playbook series on Food Safety.

USA – The American Bakers Association (ABA) and AIB Education & Research (AIB) have officially launched a new strategic collaboration to strengthen food safety resources across the commercial baking sector.

This partnership will introduce a first-of-its-kind Bakery Playbook series focused specifically on food safety, combining industry data with technical expertise to support commercial baking operations of all sizes.

The collaborative initiative is designed to deliver highly practical, bakery-specific guidance to uphold the industry’s longstanding standards of manufacturing excellence.

By pooling their collective knowledge, the two organizations will provide baking companies with updated benchmarking data, operational best practices, and actionable tools to navigate increasingly complex modern regulatory environments.

The partnership merges ABA’s established “Bakery Playbook” research format and its expansive member community with AIB’s deep technical expertise in food safety and guidance development.

According to leadership from both groups, the initiative serves as a proactive roadmap for food safety excellence.

The specialized playbooks will offer data-driven insights to help manufacturers reduce operational risks, streamline compliance with federal regulations, and protect public health.

The resource is intended to be highly accessible, providing clear solutions for both large-scale commercial facilities and independent regional bakers.

“Food safety remains the foundation of consumer confidence and business success for the industry,” stated Eric Dell, President and CEO of the ABA.

Dell emphasized that the collaboration with AIB will supply practical, specialized tools that empower member companies to maintain their rigorous commitment to safe, high-quality production environments.

Aaron Edwards, President and CEO of AIB International, echoed those sentiments, noting that the venture directly aligns with AIB’s core nonprofit mission to support a safer global food system.

Edwards added that combining the ABA’s strong industry engagement with AIB’s technical background will enable them to create highly resilient food safety programs that evolve with new manufacturing challenges.

The American Bakers Association stands as the largest and most established trade association for the US commercial baking industry, representing more than 350 member companies and over 1,200 manufacturing facilities.

Meanwhile, AIB Education & Research operates as the non-profit arm of AIB International, providing complimentary educational resources, independent research, and expert-led training.

The organizations confirmed that the first official publication in the new Bakery Playbook series is scheduled for release in 2027, with additional implementation tools and specialized research findings to be unveiled as the multi-phase project progresses.
